Broken Party, part 1

Aloha Friends. Welcome back. Part 1 of 2.  Broken Party

There are many strong and energy-filled conservatives and Republicans in Hawaii.  Thank youThe Hawaii Republican Party can be better.

Writing to conservatives & Republicans, mostly in Hawaii, I email rather than blog because this is a (quasi) private discussion. These reports chronicle HRP’s story with enormous amounts data and solutions. My perspective is that of conservative, Republican, former State Party Chairman & RNC member. I am not here writing for any of my current conservative organizations, nationally or in Hawaii. These reports augment what you should hear from HRP, or what you need to research. Ask party leaders to act, or continue to lose. We won’t always agree but we should be informed. Hawaii conservatives should know they are not alone. Please forward this to conservatives or ask to be removed.

To know where you’re going, you have to know where you’ve been.  We’ve provided reports at least monthly for six years.  Not my site, but my reports

HRP failed, again, and has no plan for 2018.  HRP is unable to challenge Democrats until we solve our internal administrative and ideological issues.  Republicans must first fix their house.  We need a conservative, competent, organized, manned, and funded HRP with committed leaders.  Shapiro SA “The GOP brand is shot in Hawaii, and the party won’t recover as a relevant political force anytime soon.”

Hawaii has it’s first-ever member of the NRA Board of Directors. Based on the results of the 2016 NRA election, last month, I filled the NRA Board vacancy for the remainder of the current term (April 29).  I am running for election to a full term, now as an incumbent. Strong support from friends at HRA, FNRA, and HIRA made this possible. THANK YOU.

YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS, or cry.  As we go to print, follow this. President Trump is sworn in. Honolulu progressives hold a Trump Protest rally with Beth Fukumoto as speaker. Fukumoto and Cynthia Thielen bash Trump to the cheering crowd of abortion-loving snowflakes. HIRA exposes Fukumoto, and puts heat on GOP HQ. Then, HIRA blasts R micro-caucus for unanimously making Fukumoto caucus leader and calls on them to grow some… guts to take Fukumoto out of leadership. HQ is paralyzed, go figure, but micro-caucus “discusses” Fukumoto situation. Ha, discuss. Somehow, hmmm, media is alerted to the caucus meeting. But, turns out the “discussion” is whether to apply a censure to Fukumoto. Seriously? Censure? Bob McDermott, Gene Ward, Andria Tupola, Lauren Cheape, Thielen are worthless. Ever looking for the excuse to bolt, Fukumoto takes her hurt feelings and CB: Fukumoto Bailing.

Fukumoto “I can no longer remain a member of a party that punishes dissent.“ forgets that she voted with Miriam Hellreich and Pat Saiki using the Fritz ‘Rohlfing Purity Pledge’ to oust then HIRA President Tito Montes for dissent. (Maybe she missed the news of Trump firing the State Dept woman for not getting on the boat.)  MOST BREAKING – Fukumoto makes history as the second in a row sitting leader to change party. See, happened too fast to include here. SA says Fukumoto is gone.

Rohlifing, Hellreich, Ward presided over the loss of the R Senate and House leaders, wow. The lingering question: Since Rohlfing, Hellreich, and Ward made this a “candidate-centric” party, do all Republicans now have to switch to the Democrat Party? Way to go GOP “leaders”.

Don’t miss the cat fight. Tupola, who got beat for leader by Fukumoto two years ago, and again three weeks ago, is more than happy to jump on the HIRA bandwagon to oust Fukumoto. She doesn’t care, and never spoke out, whether Fukumoto publicly criticized the President. She has the same liberal ACU rating as the rest of them. But, she is opportunistic enough to give the other cat a shove.

Meetings – Finances – By the Numbers – State Meeting

NRA BoD, N VA. Three days of committee meetings and a day of BoD.  My Military and Veterans Affairs Cmte did not meet, but Outreach committee spent an entire day together.  Celebrating the elections, much work to do. Won President and 5/6 Senate races. Will take time to fix all Obama and Bloomberg pain. Among legislative priorities: Hearing Protection Act, National Reciprocity, US off UN Firearms Treaty. Increase in Hunter and shooter members. Taking the offensive

SHOT Show, Las Vegas. My first SHOT show, joined the Brownell’s team.  Sweet experience of vendors and manufactures showing the newest, not yet hit the market, hot guns and accessories.  Plus, it is Las Vegas i.e. craps tables. Heard 60,000 and 85,000 attend. Thousands of booths, in six ballrooms. Coolest: Microgun handheld 5.56mm mini-gun, they are soon to demonstrate suppressor technology.

Inaugural. Washington DC. Redeye from Las Vegas. Moved by and proud during Inauguration. DC is a mess with attendees and protesters. Disruptions did not disrupt procedures, at all, but did affect some folks attending. This was an emotional day for many of us. Marissa & Gary Kerns and I attended banquet with Mighty American Strike Force. Not cold like last time we celebrated. President Trump, sounds good.

Norquist Wednesday meeting. Closed meeting for 150 conservative Hill principles and staffers, and me. When candidates ramble, Norquist cuts them off with “Guns, babies, taxes. Where do you stand.” Congress is working overtime to keep up with Administration. Norquist, also an MRA Board member, let me pitch my NRA candidacy, first time he’s let anyone do that.

Weyrich Lunch. Morton Blackwell, Leadership Institute, and (now) Tom Fitton, Judicial Watch, chair this historic invite-only conservative meeting. More congressional briefings. Everything off the record.

-Took in a couple gun shows, business considerably up since before Christmas, and local/county GOP meetings (obviously not in Hawaii because there are NO county meetings in Hawaii).

Revelations of HQ money hanky-panky coincide with Rohlfing/Hellreich/Liu (R/H/L) hiring a lawyer to silence HIRA. Had HIRA succumbed, we’d never know of HRP HQ corruption.  HIRA still waiting for our impotent HQ to initiate their lawsuit.  HQ is feckless, as always.

-HRP FEC  Year end, not yet final on FEC site, is BLACK (good) with Lingle raiser funds. Receipts $85,280 + 0 RNC bailout + 0 from state account. FEC Sustaining Donors: down to 3/14 Exec Cmte (no Ward, no Rohlfing, only 1/4 county chair), 2/51 District chairs, 7 party members. When leaders don’t buy in, don’t expect others to do so. Disbursements $39,168 = 39.2k admin overhead + 0 campaigns and elections. CoH up from 29.1k to 75k.  CoH for operations = 25k + 11.7k CSC + 5k counties. They’ve combined their accounts to hide mortgage but estimate is 50k in mortgage account for 92k due mortgage.

HRP CSC. Receipts 11k, CoH= 16,600. Of which about 5k belongs to counties. R/H/W have no idea how to use CSC soft money, using all hard money for Lingle event and bills.

Pay outs= 3051 air ticket(?), 17,837 Koolau dinner, 3009 James salary +2020 payroll tax, 1476 mortgage+2515 building maintenance +another 1963 for a/c repair+190 utilities(?), 1505 compliance consulting+ 202 accounting, new 2275 data consulting(??), 253 phone, 152 cable, 500 printing, 79 office supplies.  An entire election cycle with nothing expended on elections. Health insurance, copier and other bills were not paid in December.

-HQ now calls mortgage payment “rent”. Anyone else call your mortgage or auto payments “rent”?

-Reader “As a former GOP Treasurer in the late 90’s when the GOP was relevant, I am appalled by the apparent lack of reporting, transparency, engagement and financial oversight of the current GOP.“

-Though HQ, Rohlfing, Ward, and Hellreich did all they could to hamper and disrupt Trump Hawaii before the election, they are talking a good, pro-Trump story now as they try to raise money off the trump name.

-Linda Lingle raiser. They say 300 attended. Lingle moving back to Hawaii (more on that below).  Keynote Lingle not once said she supported or agreed with President Trump. Not. Once. MC Aiona proves he is liberal, giving kudos to Saiki for introducing abortion-on-demand.

-HIRA was wrong. Stanford Carr didn’t buy HRP for 10k. He and wife contributed $17,500, or 20% of the entire event. No better way for Dems to keep HRP ineffective than to keep R/H/W.  Imagine Hellreich and Lingle’s selling point “Cmon Carr. If you don’t give to us, those conservative HIRA guys will take over and start to challenge the Dems and your pay-to-play.” Fun reminiscing with donor names for Lingle event, those liberals funded the party in the Lingle days.

-Mary Smart refused to present a finance report at December State Cmte. Cmte will go six months without financials and only two (Kulbis, Kama-Kimura) of those idiots (the rest of them) cared enough to ask.  Smart blames her lack of report on ED Music Man Jack James making her conversion from Navy officer to snowflake (might be redundant) complete – it is always someone else’s fault. Yes, Music Man is incompetent, we still expect Republicans to take responsibility.

-HQ paid $3051 in air travel, doesn’t say for whom. Huh? Three THOUSAND? Lingle needs trip to prepare to move back to Hawaii? Coincidence? Just sayin. (But, THREE thousand?)

By the numbers

#1. Again, and it is not good. Wall Street: States Where Poverty Is Worse Than You Think

5.  HRP lacks integrity to address Rs – Thielen (ACU 24), Carroll, McDermott (ACU 57), Pine, Fenton – who endorsed 2012 Ds against Rs. Add, 2014 Cheape (15), Fukumoto (43), Egge, and Hannemann’s ‘Rohlfing Rs.’ 2016 Kaaihue, Pine, Combs, Djou.

7.  Number of listeners on Tuesday’s “Talk Republican” show with Music Man James, three less than the hefty ten listeners Aiona had earlier.

29.  out of 100. House R ACU 2016 average, down further from a 2015 terrible 34.  Maui Dem rep is better than all ours.  McDermott and Tupola score in mid-30s, Ward is lowest at 27.

46.  Months since Hellreich wrote “use massive voter registration drives to Increase our chances of winning.” 22 since she said “We need voter registration drives.”  No HRP voter reg drive in five+ years.

50.  Months since the ’12 required HRP financial audit was to be conducted. 38 since the ’13 audit was due. 27 since HRP chair promised. Donors don’t give when finances are in question.

50.  McDermott says he is conservative, as if retelling a lie again makes it true. Ask him to VOTE conservatively.  ACU 50 lifetime rating = liberal Republican.

100.  Paul Smith reminder: “FYI….Jones act is 100 years old in 2017. Time to end it!”

643.  Days (as of February 1) to the 2018 General election.

HIRA’s exposure of Saiki and R/H/L corruption shows that HRP needs cleansing.  Fearful R legislators are as culpable as the State Cmte is incompetent.

-Rohlfing used his chairman update last month to tell how he and HQ would turn around the party and win elections … then adds Mark Moses eulogy as an after-thought.  How tasteless and insensitive.  He topped it off by not using his eulogy, but by lifting a staffer’s piece and cut & paste as if it were from HRP.

Ward’s December letter is as bad.  Recall that this guy promised and then failed to bring $ to Hawaii for the elections. Now he criticizes the Dems for not changing leadership (Pelosi in Washington, Souki here) in the face of overwhelming losses. In his NEXT paragraph announces that in the face of overwhelming loses (Slom, Pouha, every challenger at every level) the local House RINO caucus is staying with losers Fukumoto and Tupola.  This is why no one respects Ward, or politicians.

-District chairs are still unable to get email addresses for their districts, or to have HQ send the DC emails to the district addresses.  Proof that you either do not have a district chair (except in name only) or that HQ won’t allow DC to email to you: three months since election, have you heard from your DC?  Prove me wrong. I know of two districts that have gotten a total of one each email through the HQ logjam.  Reason for no communications:,,,,,,,, District chair “how do we have an email list that is not vetted?  How do we advise our Districts of what is happening?  Why doesn’t the party send out a result of the meeting if District Chairs are not allowed to?“

Communications vice Andy Mukk rationale for not providing information “Most people don’t care about getting or staying informed.“

Reader “If we are candidate centric why do we need District Chairs.  Why have the caucuses, just send out an email and ask who wants to be a delegate…first come first served, unless you’re conservative.“

-Readers: Hawaii GOP web site Calendar of events like district meetings to elect chairs is TOTALLY BLANK.  Must give them credit.  A Brilliant Tactic! Is it not?  We can’t vote the bums out if we don’t know when or where our district meets. I visited GOP Hq 10:30 AM … dark, dank, locked and empty. Called asking for a return call … hooo hummm … maybe after the caucuses.“ and “I have a screenshot of the calendar plus a link: GOP Calendar There’s a lot more evidence of cheating.“

Attend your February district organizing meeting.  Contact because HQ is attempting to suppress participation by refusing to schedule or announce caucuses. Several are announced with less than a week’s notice.

-Why people don’t trust politicians.  McDermott last year warned that Fukumoto was bad for Republicans, bad for HRP, bad for Hawaii, and that she would jump to the D party as had her mentor Johanson.  Then, he joined the caucus in unanimously reelecting her to Micro-Minority Leader with “Beth is the best choice to represent our diverse group and move us forward on constructive policy initiatives for our state.” Tonight, he turned yet again to denounce Fukumoto.  This guy is as untrustworthy as Ward.

ACU 2016 ratings. 0/76 Hawaii legislators receive an award i.e. not a one scored 80% or above. Of 100 points, R highest is an ultra-liberal 35 from McDermott, lowest is Ward 27. Highest D DeCoite 36, higher than any R. R House average 29, three points above D’s 26. R 2016/lifetime: McDermott 35/50, Tupola 33/39, Thielen 29/25, Fukumoto 26/37, Cheape 26/18, Ward 24/33.

Less than 80 is not conservative. ACU is considered a more generous score than Heritage Action or Conservative Review. Every Hawaii R received a failing grade in 2016. For lifetime scores, not one R is conservative. Dem DeCoite (ACU 36) voted more conservatively than any R house member. Dems DeCoite 36, Har 33, Kong 33, Yamine 33, Aquino 32, Choy 32, Cullen 32, Jordan 32, McKelvey 32, Ohno 32, Tokioka 31, Say 30, Ito 29, and Oshiro 27 ALL voted more conservatively than Fukumoto 26, Cheape 26, and Ward 24. 22 Ds are more conservative than your elected NCM Ward.

Join Hawaii Rifle Association to protect our gun (civil) rights.

-Honored to be a co-chairman of the Trump-Pence Second Amendment Coalition, led by Don Jr and Chris Cox, and humbled to receive LtCol Oliver North’s first-ever NRA race endorsement. to be appointed to the National Rifle Association of America Military and Veterans Affairs Committee and the Outreach Committee for 2016-2017. Hat tip to our R House minors: each signed McDermott’s letter to NRA asking I not be elected. Their liberal, anti-gun 29/100 average ACU rating convinced many voters of the right choice.  HIRA: Elect Lee to NRA Board. Running for NRA Board of Directors at Please LIKE  Thank you for you vote and support.

ARE YOU SATISFIED? HRP needs leadership focused on HRP.  Forward this – people need to know, you need to act. Part 2 coming.
