Trumpified, part 1

Aloha Friends. Welcome back. Part 1 of 2.  Trumpified

This month is mostly about our National Convention delegation.  Trump, Cleveland, the trip, all were fine.  The Hawaii delegation and ‘leadership’? They were a mess, worse even than the mess-practiced HRP.  However, remember, 2016 is about SCOTUS, all about SCOTUS.  Let’s begin ….

There are many strong and energy-filled conservatives and Republicans in Hawaii.  Thank youThe Hawaii Republican Party can be better.

Writing to conservatives & Republicans, mostly in Hawaii, I email rather than blog because this is a (quasi) private discussion. These reports chronicle HRP’s story with enormous amounts data and solutions. My perspective is that of conservative, Republican, former State Party Chairman & RNC member. I am not here writing for any of my current conservative organizations, nationally or in Hawaii. These reports augment what you should hear from HRP, or what you need to research. Ask party leaders to act, or continue to lose. We won’t always agree but we should be informed. Hawaii conservatives should know they are not alone. Please forward this to conservatives or ask to be removed.

– August 28 HRA Annual Meeting, Kokohead Range

Meetings – Finances – By the Numbers – Convention

ATR call with Senate Leader.  Norquist, Americans for Tax Reform, hosts 30-minute call for conservative leaders with McConnell.  McConnell touts successes: rewrite NCLB, trade authority, SS reform, anti-PR bailout, environmental law, GMO labeling, tax extender relief, 5-year highway bill.  Rescinding OCare & defunding PP – not expecting Obama to sign.  SCOTUS nominee won’t get hearing.  Ds make guns political, so no new action. Races: 24 seats defense vs D’s 10.  Next call with Speaker Ryan.

State Committee.  April had only 20/51 district chairs (even as Exec Cmte members double as their own district chair), only 4/16 NI and no BI district chairs, zero from East Honolulu.  July’s pre-Primary meeting had only 14/51 districts (less than 10% precinct chairs statewide).  Liu skips, in four years as placeholder NCM he attended less than five quarterly meetings.  In April, Treasurer Smart says party has “substantial” CoH; In July, Smart warns without explanation that funds will “not last to the end of the year.”  Cmte avoids James’ motion to throw CD1 candidate out of the party D when confronted with their hypocrisy of having not done so with the 8-10 Rs-who-endorse-Ds from the past two cycles.  Rohlfing punts on 2016 “This year is only a building block for 2018.”  HIRA/So What If We Gave Up?   Smart reports $61k operating funds (5k is county), 95k total (i.e. 34k mortgage).

RNC Meeting.  Resolutions, Contest Cmte, General Session.  Ho hum, we’re focused on Convention.  Several high-priced events (your contributions provide perks for RNC members).  No chair at Chairmen’s meeting as Rohlfing says he had flight issues.  Hellreich looks ragged, Liu is not seen.  Ward’s first appearance, with Rohlfing’s proxy – no experience, having not read the rules, never been in a meeting much less a Rules meeting – as two Trump-supporting proposals were voted down.  Everyone moves to their state hotels on Saturday, I stayed downtown with the NRA.

Pre-convention. Angst & in-fighting. Unorganized outsiders squashed by the establishment+Trump.  Good on Platform dailysignal/Despite LGBTQ members, Platform Stays Conservative and not on Rules thehill/Establishment Wins Rules Fight.  Platform is more conservative and more detailed (hint HRP) than 2012.  Platform Cmte ran long so I did radio spot for Tony Perkins to summarize progress and pitch 2A.    Paikai got photo with RNC General Counsel, not comprehending that Ryder bit*ch-slapped Paikai & Hellreich over their ‘let’s-break-the-rules-and-oust-a-guest’ faux pas.  RNC View the platform here on  My primary goal = Platform remains strong on 2A.  Credentials overturned two RNC decisions and publicly embarrassed CO and this parody is too good to miss daily-show/Virgin Island Delegates.  Rohlfing missed Credentials (supposed flight issues points that he never intended to attend RNC meeting) and Hawaii is the only state to NOT have two members on each convention committee.

Dayton first week wrap, and convention preview SA/Rs Hit Convention.  “Lee is a member of the National Rifle Association’s Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, and he joined members of the NRA staff and board members in Cleveland as they monitored the GOP platform discussions to ensure the party maintains its strong support for Second Amendment guarantees of the right to own firearms.“

Convention.  If you read this report then you watched or read about the national convention.  Lid:  The floor at the Republican National Convention was the political equivalent of a Michael Bay movie on Monday afternoon, with procedural chaos and some walkouts breaking out as #StopTrump GOP activists unsuccessfully demanded a full floor vote that could have been a final shot at denying Donald Trump the nomination.  Disorderly D convention Redstate/Chaos, berning flags (and people), booing. Down below, you’ll read about the Hawaii delegation which you didn’t see in the media. No Hawaii media traveling with delegation.  First time I recall that lack of local interest.

Wednesday Meeting.  Norquist hosts his weekly meeting in Cleveland.  Fast-paced two hours from Governor Brownback to Republicans Overseas to issues large and small.  Saw many friends who regularly attend the Wednesday meeting.  At this convention meeting, some who call themselves conservative were allowed to attend.  Wharton, King, Toomey from Hawaii attended.

-Congressional Sportsman Foundation.  Shooting beats speeches.  Media description “Tuesday’s event was held at the Hill ‘n Dale, a private hunting club about 45 minutes outside Cleveland.  200 attended the event, with “industry people” joining the GOP politicians.  The main activity was an outdoor competition, with shooters moving through woods and over fields (in golf carts) using 12-gauge shotguns to hit 78 moving clay targets.  Side events allowed industry folks to share airbows, cross bows and guns with silencers.”  Didn’t embarrass myself, didn’t win any prizes.  Oz Geist spoke, several D & R congressmen.  To represent NRA, Hawaii, and our delegation, it cost my creds which Hellreich/Paikai wouldn’t issue.

Revelations of HQ money hanky-panky coincide with Rohlfing/Hellreich/Liu (R/H/L) hiring a lawyer to silence HIRA. Had HIRA succumbed, we’d never know of HRP HQ corruption.  HIRA still waiting for our impotent HQ to initiate their lawsuit.  HQ is feckless, as always.

-HRP FEC  June is RED, AGAIN.  Compliance error and questionable expenses hamper Rohlfing/Hellreich/Liu.  Deducting the illegal $1,000, Receipts $11,311= 2,305 contributions + 900 RNC for charity state + whopping 8,100 from state account; better than 600 R/H/L raised in March.  Sustaining Donors on record: 4/14 Exec Cmte, 4/51 District chairs, 3 party members.  When leaders don’t buy in, don’t expect others to do so.  Disbursements $15,113 = $3345 Tagavilla salary+1969 payroll tax+348 med insurance, 1476 mortgage, 2742 building maint, fee, 1500 new compliance company is taking HQ for a ride, 1113 accounting, 253 cable, 734 equipment rental, 150 Mailchimp, 391 printing, 159 office supplies, an odd north shore news subscription 194, and Rohlfing reimbursed for court filing fee 315 without a state cmte budget vote.  Zero for electioneering, and no communication or candidate support or staff hiresCoH for operations about 10k + CSC 10k soft money + 5k counties. 32k mortgage account (+4k in CSC) for 98k remaining mortgage. 13/20 months this election cycle in the RED.  Since January 1, 2015 HRP is RED 23k.  For the election cycle, HRP is 26k in the RED i.e. living off the RNC funds Saiki did NOT use to elect Rs last election, with no funds for 2016 campaigns & elections. HRP red 26/42 past reports.  Twelve Rohlfing months: $25k Presidential campaigns, CC event, and LDD show Rohlfing/Hellreich/Liu team a shortfall of 33.9k. HRP red 8/14 months under R/H/L.

-Not everyone is too lazy to raise funds, RNC raises $16.5M in June.

By the numbers

#1. Planned Parenthood Enemy.  Redstate/daleiden-cleared-of-all-charges.  Won’t see this in MSM.

5.  HRP lacks integrity to address Rs – Thielen (ACU 24), Carroll, McDermott (ACU 57), Pine, Fenton – who endorsed 2012 Ds against Rs. Add, 2014 Cheape (15), Fukumoto (43), Egge, and Hanneman’s ‘Rohlfing Rs.’ More this year.

6.  R legislators endorsed by HSTA teacher’s union: Ward (ACU 38), Fukumoto, Cheape, Pouha (ACU 18), Thielen (ACU 24). Not? Slom (ACU 100), Ds Kong (ACU 45), Oshiro (ACU 29).

11.  Billion+ dollars is ok with Djou and House Republicans, it is not their money. Stop rail now.

11.  Hawaii Libertarian boss “I would have scored 100% conservative on the 11 bills noted in the ACU ranking this year.“ i.e. even Ls are more conservative than any R House member.

34.  R House micro-caucus ACU average rating. Slom = 100, Cheape = 9. ACU Ratings Hawaii 2015

39.  Months since Hellreich wrote “the need to use massive voter registration drives to Increase our chances of winning.” 15 since she again said “We need voter registration drives.”  Embarrassing.

40.  District chairs ON paper, out of 51, three months to election.

43.  Months since the ’12 required HRP financial audit was to be conducted. 31 since the ’13 audit was due. 20 since HRP chair promised. Donors don’t give when finances are in question.

99.  Days (as of August 1) to the Presidential election.

Convention. You MUST do one in your lifetime.  RNC “50,000 guests, including 15,000 media and nearly 5,000 delegates.“   My effort on NRA meetings & events and NFRA business, avoided disastrous Hawaii GOP and Trump Hawaii leadership.  Tension in the Hawaii delegation was maxed out – Hellreich frazzled, Paikai angry, Rohlfing without a say, Liu absent.  Confusion, indecision, incompetence e.g. with credentials received early Saturday morning, Hellreich moved the SUNDAY meeting from 2 pm, to 2:30, to 1, then could muddle through passes for only Sunday night, no creds were prepared to issue.  Contrast: the 400 member GA group issued creds and had an event with speaker on Sunday.  By Sunday afternoon the 500 member NY issued creds.  Bad start for Hawaii leadership, and it got worse.

-Hard to screw up more than having your chosen delegation aide quit (disgusted with leadership) the month before departure, her Hellreich-coordinated replacement (none of us met, lives in CA) quit (family emergency) the week before convention, and the third aide (Hellreich-believer guest ‘forced’ to help) didn’t arrive in Cleveland until the start of the convention.

-Delegation aides are allowed on the floor, but not a seat.  Seating is crowded, and at a premium.  Hellreich sat her older BFF aide, forcing a delegate off the floor.

Hypocrisy of Hellreich & Paikai showed each day.  Sowing diverseness and hate.  Not issuing creds, not providing all the delegates the same support.  Issuing convention bags to only their friends.  Not passing info to the entire delegation.  Cruz and Rubio folks were better informed and stayed above the abuse, had many great experiences as we scored tickets to many events.

-Hellreich & Paikai made up a rule that I had to drive out of town each day to pick up creds, though they issued to others, and we never saw Lingle.  It was payback for HIRA/RNC-Smacks-Down-Miriam-Hellreich-Again.  Trump ‘leaders’ went along.  Attended two meetings and could cut the tension in the air.  Delegate “It is disappointing.  These guys (Paikai, Hellreich, Rohlfing) are so confused, and unorganized.”  On Thursday drove up for creds and a flustered Paikai put his finger in my face and angrily says “I should punch you in your face.”  Calls himself the Prophet and we know he is a wannabe bully.  Hellreich looked terrible, then confused a staffer with her guest speaker.  When every member of every delegation received a convention gift bag, Hellreich & Paikai distributed them to only their people, neglecting 20 members of the delegation.  When everyone received a clear bag to take to convention, they didn’t issue until Tuesday and then to only their people.  When delegates received their “Delegate” pin, they ‘ran out’, but not for their people.  When asked for my credentials, aide Shin whispered “I am only following instructions” as if to absolve herself from the idiocy.

-When asked why the daily meeting had to be so late in the day causing delegates to miss events downtown, or why delegates are not responsible for their own creds, Rohlfing responded “I have no say.” Think about that, the chairman has “no say”, sure confirms who really holds the power for the past 16 years and who is responsible for HRP being in this mess.

-One delegate forfeit $125 because of Hellreich/Paikai ‘creds-controlling policy.  Unfortunately, the ‘leaders’, Paikai, Hellreich, decided to separate the members by campaign and treat others poorly instead of bringing a team from Hawaii.  Have never seen our delegation, or any delegation, with so much tension and hate.  Not saying other leaders besides Hellreich & Paikai would do better, but, yes, even a monkey would have done better.  Even Trumpers commented on the confusion, lack of organization.

-Sort-of-candidates Combs and Ward (ACU 38) took this week off for Cleveland convention parties.  Combs claims to have a flat (some were mean to say that she said ‘fat’, not so) cardboard cutout used on the side of the road so residents think she is on Kauai actually campaigning.  Combs arrived home and immediately sent an email appeal for support for her campaign which she blew off while in Cleveland.  The entire time Combs was away, CB ran their candidate profile describing Combs as a Kauai Dem.

HRP is unable to challenge Democrats’ and liberals’ ideology until we solve our internal and administrative issues.  We need a conservative, competent, organized, manned, and funded HRP with committed leaders. Republicans must first fix their house.  Shapiro SA “The GOP brand is shot in Hawaii, and the party won’t recover as a relevant political force anytime soon.”

Lingle blip causes Trump heartburn.  SA Borreca lingle-no-longer-superstar-governor The liberal blog Raw Story “Monday’s explosion of Jew-baiting and racist trolling that took place on the Republicans’ official YouTube page shocked the RNC into closing down the comments section.”  SA Shapiro “Why was Lingle in Cleveland kissing up to Trump?  By most speculation, her appearance was an audition for a job in a Trump administration.  Lingle has been in a political slide since she left office in 2010.  She badly lost a U.S. Senate race to Mazie Hirono in 2012 and recently washed out as Illinois chief operating officer after barely a year.  Unemployment is tough, but it’s sad to see our former governor so hard up for attention and a job.“

-KHNL phone interview HNN/hawaii-delegates-react-to-republican-national-convention “We’re focused on electing Donald Trump. This election is about the Supreme Court; most presidential elections are.  We know Hillary Clinton is not who we want selecting our Supreme Court justices,” Lee said.  It was 12:30 am and she caught me between evening activities.

-When Cruz called on voters to “vote your conscience” and “vote for the candidates who shares your values”, best FB post was “why didn’t you people think he was talking about your candidate?”  My respect for Cruz jumped – it took guts to NOT endorse.  My respect for Trump grew – knowing Cruz was not going to endorse, he still let him speak.

Trump doesn’t need Rs TWT/Should Priebus Enforce The Pledge? “Hawaii delegate Willes Lee said legal and technical reasoning aside, by “attempting to make a federal case out of the pledge, you only create more disunity rather than help unify the party behind Trump.”  Cruz non-endorsement noise matches the silence of Honolulu County’s endorsement of Djou who does NOT support Trump.

Memorable experience, even with the poor leadership and incompetence of Hellreich & Paikai, and the non-existence of Rohlfing, Liu, Ward, and Trumper leaders Wharton, King, DiRocco, Franklin.  Trump people kept it ugly the whole week (and they continue on return).  Without the pressure of having to trick, bribe, or force anyone to support their candidate, Cruz and Rubio delegates had a great time.

-Didn’t know where to include this convention item as HRP helps the Ds in Philadelphia HIRA/Hellreich’s GOP Inflitrators With Ds in Phily  “What was Charles Djou’s full-time legislative aide and deputy campaign finance director Kainoa Kaumeheiwa-Rego doing at the DNC last night introducing Democrat Brian Schatz?  What was Beth Fukumoto’s legislative analyst (as well as Richard Fale’s chief fundraiser) Tania Kehau Cortez-Camero doing standing right next to her in the Democrat delegation?“

Funny (sad) enough to include.  Which one:  NBA VS NFL?  36 have been accused of spousal abuse.  7 arrested for fraud.  19 accused of writing bad checks.  117 directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses.  3 have done time for assault.  71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit.  14 arrested on drug-related charges.  8 arrested for shoplifting.  21 are defendants in lawsuits.  84 arrested for drunk driving in the last year!  Is it the NBA Or NFL?  Neither, it’s the 535 members of the US Congress.

Good guy with a gun stops bad guy with a gunWISTV/man-saves-lives-at-nightclub.  Three wounded, and one gunman taken down instead of 50 innocents killed.  Another, Redstate/good-guy-gun-stops-bad-guy-gun.  Not saying this was a wise shot, but it worked.
