March, part 2
Aloha Friends. Welcome to part 2 of 2.
There are many strong and energy-filled conservatives and Republicans in Hawaii. Thank you.
Writing to conservatives and Republicans, mostly in Hawaii, I email rather than blog because this is a (quasi-) private discussion. These reports chronicle HRP’s story. My perspective is that of conservative, former State Party Chairman and RNC member, now with several conservative organizations nationally and in Hawaii. Hawaii conservatives need to know that they are not alone. Please forward this to conservatives or let me know to be removed. Have to know where you’ve been. Not my site, but past reports at www.hawaiideservesbetter.com

HIRA’s exposure of Saiki and R/H/L corruption shows that HRP needs cleansing. Fearful R legislators are as culpable as the State Cmte is incompetent.
Readers’ Comments – Party News – Quick Hits
–I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “The level of ridiculousness is too high for my tastes. I’m going to remain inactive for now….which is looking like forever.“ “This makes me angry over the slipshod way HRP is running. Most of the people running the show have no clue, and have never participated when things were run well.” “The people we have running the show have exceptionally awful people skills, to the point of bordering on antisocial personality disorder. I have to minimize the amount of exposure I have around these people because, the closer you get, the sicker you get.“ “I suggest we make some serious leadership changes in the HI RP. Can’t continue like this. The game is money and the lack of effective & honest leadership. How can these people sleep at nites when their minds are full of corruption & betrayal?“ “You’d think [Fukumoto] would be in the loop to be more proactive instead they pick all the superficial useless issues …“
-Reader After observing the Legislature for a month, I see no difference between the Rs and Ds. Some Ds have better manners, more polite staff and are more principled than the Rs. Hawaii is where a total charlatan can be a big fish in a small pond. On the Mainland, some of these people in the Hawaii House or Senate, whether Ds or Rs would be waitresses or used car salesmen. But in Hawaii, they can fool themselves and others into thinking they’ve arrived.
-Calculated or incompetent. Gingrich is in town, but it is a waste to alert the party. I called them when Sarah Palin was at Ko’Olina and all they did was stand around scratching their heads. The majority of e-mails that I send to them go unanswered on other topics as well, so I’m not really sure why they included in the [Purity Pledge] “compliance” memorandum a line about removing people for going out of communication, they don’t communicate and when they do it’s useless.
Revelations of HQ money hanky-panky coincide with Rohlfing/Hellreich/Liu (R/H/L) hiring a lawyer to silence HIRA. Had HIRA succumbed they would have ceased operations the day before the controversial state meeting. Conveniently, then, we’d never know of this corruption.
–HRP shrivels. HIRA exposed HRP embezzlement and fraud. HRP (like Trump threatening Cruz) said they’d sue to shut down HIRA at the end of October 2015. Reading HIRA email this past four months, apparently Rohlfing and Lilly lied (like Trump about Cruz).
HRP instigates in-fighting. “[HIRA] received a Cease and Desist notice from a Democrat union attorney retained by the Hawaii Republican Party.“ Press Release: HRP Hires Dem Lawyer. HQ STILL never told members that Rohlfing initiated action against conservatives, that he spent funds illegally, that the Exec Cmte covered up the theft, that they don’t have legal standing to sue HIRA.
R/H/L say they own the word Republican and any elephant logo. HIRA says Republicans Are Not Stupid, Confused, and Uninformed Like You Say. Turns out, HRP does not own the RNC elephant, or the word Republican and RNC Dumps HRP.
To cover their culpability, Saiki, Hellreich, Marumoto & Liu threw Rohlfing under the bus (Humiliating Embezzlement Showdown At GOP HQ Meeting) for secretly taking $2500 of donor funds in October to retain a lawyer without approval. Rohlfing used Smart’s $2500 CC table for the retainer and Sutton’s $2500 CC table for $350/hour fees. Reader “Not one person came to Rohlfing’s defense.”
The Exec Cmte said the C&D letter is a bad idea, told Rohlfing the RNC opposed it, publicly scolded him, and adjourned rather than take a vote. A week later in a quietly called November meeting to cover the illegal activity, Hellreich, Smart, Marumoto, Saiki and the rest approved the expenditure.
Some party members are angry that HIRA reported the HQ corruption and cover-up, rather than angry about the corruption and cover up. Republican inaction is more proof of R legislators’ impotence (& the State Cmte). Four months past deadline to sue HIRA, HQ hopes HIRA will stop bringing it up.
No organization does more to destroy the Republican brand than the Hawaii Republican Party. A pro-life national Platform; HRP elects pro-abortion Saiki. A record-setting RNC fundraising cycle; Rohlfing owns the two lowest raising months of the last decade. A historic majority in the US House & majority in the Senate; HRP has 1/25 senators and 7/51 reps. RNC fights tax increases; ‘leader’ Fukumoto supports tax increases. SA declares HRP “irrelevant”; conservatives flock to HIRA’s conservative message. Republican Assemblies formed 1934, once led by Reagan enroute to the Governorship and Presidency, as the solution to the establishment without principles. HRP epitomizes what Milner writes “Death is not too strong a word to use here. Influence-wise, the Republicans here are gone, and there is no resurrection on the horizon. So it is safe to see one-party control as a given.” Republican Party is Dead The Assemblies remain the Republican Wing of the Republican Party.

Hawaii Presidential Campaigns
Cruz Hawaii www.tedcruzhawaii.org leadership team, website, FB. National Cruz Hawaii Leadership
Trump Hawaii on ballot. “The Prophet” began limited messaging and organizing meetings.
Kasich Hawaii on ballot. Minimal messaging to ID supporters.
Carson Hawaii on ballot. Said he’d drop if he didn’t place in top 3-4 in first 3-4, but sticking around anyway. Limited messaging through their superpac network.
Rubio Hawaii on ballot, organized by Romney 2012 team centered on Mormon turnout.
Bush Hawaii first on ballot, first off ballot. HRP Exec cmte members should, finally, begin their HRP job.
-$40k for HRP. Caucus costs $4-6k to conduct. That’s $35k HRP sucked out of presidential campaigns to pay HQ bills – none for local candidates or election.
-HIRA asks legislators to show leadership ENDORSE-OR-GET-OFF-THE-POT. McDermott does, the rest still hiding. R legislators are afraid to endorse, because R legislators are afraid, period. They’ve had a year to look at the candidates. Slom had guts to join Carson early, now McDermott for Cruz. Milner in CB picks up on lack of R leadership Where is the GOP and Republican Legislators?
-Why we don’t trust politicians, one example: When Christie endorses Trump, after announcing Trump is not fit to be President …. Was Christie lying then, or is he lying now?
-2016 race, pun intended. Daily Best: “pro-Trump robocall urges voters in Vermont and Minnesota not to vote for a ‘Cuban’ like Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz. ‘The white race is dying out in America and Europe. Don’t vote for a Cuban. Vote for Donald Trump.” Tracking a profane pro-Trump robocall in Hawaii.
-Campaign spending reality. RedState Carson Scam and The Atlantic “Reporters and operatives have been pointing out that Carson’s campaign bears many of the hallmarks of a scam operation. Carson seems to agree. ‘We had people who didn’t really understand finances,’ a laughing Carson [said], ‘or maybe they did—maybe they were doing it on purpose.’ Many companies being paid millions of dollars are run by top campaign officials or their friends and relations. Many of the contributions are coming from small-dollar donors. If that money is being given by well-meaning grassroots conservatives for a campaign that’s designed not to win but to produce revenue for venders, isn’t it just a grift?”
-R legislators and HRP officers whine when they are called out for their liberal voting and positions (if any). Barnewell makes it easier to understand people such as McDermott, Djou, Lingle, and your friends at HQ. “A candidate who opposes the right to bear arms cannot be a conservative because he or she rejects the Constitution. A person who supports the Second Amendment but not other portions of our Constitution is not a conservative. To enter America unlawfully violates the Constitution and a candidate who opposes upholding the Constitution as it relates to immigration is not a conservative. To support legalization or amnesty for the millions of illegal aliens currently in America is unconstitutional, and anyone who violates the Constitution is not a conservative because it violates conservative philosophy.” There are many Americans masquerading as conservatives at election time who have no idea how to vote conservative.“ For our R party, if you support life, but vote to raise taxes, you are not conservative. If you are anti-tax but pro choice, you are not conservative. If you support life and gun control, you are not conservative. You may SAY you are a Republican, but you cannot claim to be conservative. Don’t whine, when held accountable. ACU 2015: disgusting Hawaii House Republican ratings
-Back and forth with McDermott, I asked about his 57 ACU rating, his breaking of his Taxpayers Protection Pledge by voting to extend the rail tax five years, and his email to me this week about this session’s gun bills after he had sent out a caucus-signed letter that he/they could not and would not work with me on gun issues. McDermott’s response “You are snake, and a snake is a snake. I though you were having a momentary sane and lucid moment, I guess I was wrong. Let me suggest you seek psychiatric treatment for you obsession with the personal destruction of other Republicans.“ Appears he has learned to avoid the issues and not answer the questions.
-Members running for party office used to participate in party activities to be prepared for the next level of politics. Folks were district chairs, a party officer, maybe cmte chair or ran a campaign, or were on the finance cmte, built local and national contacts, and had been at least to a state and national meeting. In the past seven years, people who have no idea how a political party operates, how to make and maintain a political party budget, build coalitions, recruit candidates, write political communications, train activists, determine vote goals, produce a Leesburg grid, monitor federal and state finance compliance, or have contacts on each island and the mainland … simply jump in. And, the incompetence shows.
