Lee Report: Status Quo, part 2

Aloha Friends. Welcome to part 2 of 2.  Status Quo

There are many strong and energy-filled conservatives and Republicans in Hawaii.  Thank you.

Writing to conservatives and Republicans, mostly in Hawaii, I email rather than blog because this is a (quasi-) private discussion. These reports chronicle HRP’s story. My perspective is that of conservative, former State Party Chairman and RNC member. I am not here writing for any of my current conservative organizations, nationally or in Hawaii. Hawaii conservatives need to know that they are not alone. Please forward to conservatives or let me know to be removed.

Not my site, but past reports at Everything Political www.willeslee.hawaiideservesbetter.com.

To our committed contributors:  Thank you.  We collaborated because we know conservatism solves Hawaii’s many problems.  Your comments, responses, input, and assistance makes “The Lee Report” what it is – a voice of conservatives wanting a better Hawaii Republican Party, and a better Hawaii. With nearly seven years of at least monthly reports focusing on HRP, it is time to move on.  Our Hawaii Republican Assembly (HIRA) keeps us current and holds liberals – Republican and Democrat – accountable. In the future, we’ll cover point topics as a HIRA guest writer. www.HawaiiRepublicanAssembly.com and Facebook @HIRA_808. Thank you.

Readers’ Comments – Quick Hits – County & State

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “(McDermott) gets the prize-winning ass award.“  “Great job of writing and informing others of the dysfunction within the party. Thank you Mr. Lee.“  “When I met Ostrov she seemed very nice but totally controlled by Saiki.“  “I hope Trump can get a FBI director who wants to hang Hillary, Obama and Kerry, and put a bounty on all the illegal aliens.“  “Considering that the Party is in shambles and that neither slate of candidates is worth voting for and that it will cost me a good amount of money to fly to Kauai I’ve decided to skip this year’s convention.“  “Being in Florida, these HI clowns would be eaten alive here. This kind of mess would never fly for even a nanosecond here. HRP should just wrap it up but then again, it is ‘adult day care’, right?  I love reading your ‘reality show’ emails.“

-District chair Hinton, SA May 16 “Republicans currently have a micro-caucus of five elected members who opt to vote in favor of the majority agenda than to propose sensible alternatives.  Party leadership has enjoyed a tenure virtually vacant of any semblance of substance.  To suggest that the Hawaii Republican Party is anywhere near capable of fulfilling the role of an opposing minority would be akin to have given Custer’s 7th Cavalry any odds whatsoever at Little Big Horn.“

Readers’ Comments – Quick Hits – Politics

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “We can’t ignore the problems within our comatose party and pathetic state leadership.“  “Mystified why anyone would want Pine or Fukumoto to remain a R?  it’s like having a double agent in the Party. For gawd sakes, let them go!  Their absence would not make a bit of difference in the Legislature!”  “So, who is the better of two evils, Rohlfing or Ostrov?  who do you think should run HRP?“  “I continue to shake my head in disgust.  Ostrov, NCW’s congressional lame duck, is making a move to oust Rohlfing at the next convention.  The NCW is a virus that must be removed.  You should run as chair.“  “A near constant barrage of criticism from Rick Hamada on KHVH of late has been dealt with similarly – no effort to defend of redefine whatsoever.“  “What a way to begin a new week. Listening to the Rick Hamada show!  He tore into Fukumoto. That led to the HRP’s silent leadership … which makes many of us cringe!“  “Hiding cowardly, dishonestly, and arrogantly on Maui during our recent, rare, SHORT state committee meeting doesn’t help our party to get from the dire straits it is in.“  “Hawaii GOP is a wasteland of people like Frenzel who obsess over titles and puff up their chests for having accomplished very little. Frenzel’s real legacy is that of being Miriam Hellreich’s puppet and Nathan “The Prophet” Paikai’s enabler.“  “Anyone that wants to see thru the smoke and mirrors of Hawaii Republican Party/HRP politics here in the Islands, one should SUBSCRIBE to the HIRA e-newsletters.“

-Broken clock is right twice a day. Garry Smith says “The Republican party is dead, not just from Fritz but from the last 4 or 5 chairs who have contributed to its demise“ but naively stumps for an inexperienced establishment Ostrov who won’t give positions on anything except to not sell the HQ space.

-District chair Noltie to Music Man “Having learned about your effort to suppress turnout at our State committee meeting last weekend, and more importantly your utter failure to comply with the explicit terms of your employment contract, why don’t you spare us the drama and resign immediately?“

-Reader “OLRW has worked to keep our party on the sidelines, officially neutral and silent on issues and refusing to fight Democrats. 100% of the party’s income goes to overhead.  0% goes to advertising, lobbying, canvassing, voter registration, etc.  Wasted time. Wasted money.  It appears OLRW is happiest when the mortgage is being paid and HRP remains silent and ineffective and under the control of the Oahu League.”

-Harlor “Yes, we want to make The Republican Party Great again.  We’ve seen party bickering, the group of Good Ole Boys ram things thru to include their votes and leaders.  We are saddened by it all.  No transparency, just good ole Chicago politics.  We keep getting the same ole, same ole crap out of the conventions. When you have all these Good Ole Boys running and the Rinos, never-Trumpers, etc., nothing will change. Used to think the Bob McDermot was a good GOPer, but he has so much disdain for HIRA, not open, loves Rail and taxes.  I gave up on Kymberly, supporting Lopresti and not Bryan, has her eye on the big prize (Mayor) and will do whatever it takes for that position. We need someone to step up like Trump and try to make Hawaii Great for Once, maybe Willes Lee.”

Ugly start to another election cycle. Fukumoto-chang gone (Reader “We are draining the swamp in Hawaii Republican Party one RINO at a time.“), but Saiki (boss in her own mind, and Rohlfing’s) will not allow Rohlfing to declare Pine dead to the Republican party. Treasurer Smart reveals campaign finance law-breaking and incompetence, and Rolhfing’s counter-charges throw the establishment into a split tailspin. Your State Cmte meeting became a shouting match of whiney voices. A failed current party chair is running for reelection against a just-as-terrible untried and inexperienced newbie in a fight not about politics, but about selling the wasteful HQ office space.  Neither appears to care about winning elections. Honolulu County upends a confused liberal establishment, electing conservative outsider Kulbis as Chairman.  HQ and Hellreich, dragging the state Exec Cmte and Trump-Hawaii corrupt leadership with them, are being sued for violating RNC rules. I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “She should join the liberal party. We have to get the party moving forward, & start cleaning up the swamp here like President Trump is doing.“  “Rail is the biggest crime in Hawaii history of record that RINO Lingle helped to carry out…. Rail is the Hawaii Democrat Party’s Super Bowl of Corruption!!!“  “I said it before….boot the bitch crook Pine!“  “(Fukumoto) has become a sideshow, only due to our failure to act.“  “Hawaii GOP is actually a social club not a political party. Think about it.  Every now and then they sponsor a money making event and have a wonderful time. Lots of speeches and feeling good.  Cash goes to pay office expenses but no other activity–no positions, no recruiting, no candidate support.  Attend national meetings and return enthusiastic but again no action. It’s all an ego booster for the officers and that’s all.”

Reader Democrats from across the nation are sending Fukumoto postcards asking her to stay in the Republican party.

Reader Some of us Mililani people were polled if we’re ok with Fukumoto turning Democrat.  I said no. It’s dishonest doing it right after an election and that she was only doing it because Joe Souki gave her a taste of vice chairmanship and she likes it.

Reader It’s hard to say which is more nauseating: watching Fukumoto turn her back on the voters who elected her as a Republican or listening to her spew that infantile line of anti-Trump rhetoric.

Reader it is so dishonest of Beth Fukumoto to take advantage of Republicans in Mililani by running as the Republican candidate then after the Legislature starts go and switch parties!!  From your emails, I knew, but the rest of Mililani who thought they were voting for a Republican — it’s a breach of trust!  They could have gone with Marilyn Lee if they wanted a Democrat, not someone who’d lie and pretend to be a Republican just to get a vote!

Reader the most recent gossip going around about Beth’s divorce was that David was gay and she’s bonking Rep. Lee. So, that would explain her hate for Trump since she doesn’t understand a normal, heterosexual alpha male.

Reader I was told that the Democrats deliberately recruit people like Beth to infiltrate the GOP…Eric’s reasoning seemed to be that Miriam seeks puppets, but maybe it’s a combo of the 2 things?

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “Hawaii gop is a joke. The only solution is to abandon Hawaii and move put pf state asap.“  “The first time you mention a name, could you put the first name as well?“ (YES)  “HRP is tacitly providing you with the golden opportunity to constructively share your sentiments with us.“  Former candidate after reading last report of HRP corruption “Whew. Sure glad I answered you honestly before.“ “Interesting insight about the former Rs in office. Could have added those who ran as R but didn’t get elected until ran as D (former Rep Sonson, Sen Espero, etc — both are not local born so they didn’t know to run as D originally).“ “Your detailed descriptions of  problems within the HRP reveal the pettiness which comes from folks who never experienced real fear and therefor concoct all sorts of irrelevant complications because they have lived in luxurious freedom and plenty so long they simply have no concept of what is truly important in this world and this country.“

Reader: Fukumoto’s “difficult to get a job”– she could have gotten work if she had been willing to apply for or take job that required hard work or didn’t have status. Moving here in 2002 from mainland without connections, I had to take jobs as transcriptionist and program coordinator to support my children, for example, because jobs I was trained for with a MS and doctorate weren’t available. My neighbor, an immigrant from Hungary, with a PhD in cellular biology, had to work selling Primerica and as security guard to support her son. We humbled ourselves to take jobs we were overqualified for but we did honest labor and are self-sufficient. Beth just didn’t want to really work?

Reader: My grandfather was a European champion in free pistol and an excellent shot in WWII. Mom as a kid made his bullets and he ordered some of his guns from Smith and Wesson….guns were his entire life; everyday! My mom and I just couldn’t stop laughing at the Mattis quotes.

Reader: Do you know why Gene Ward only served as a Trustee of the East West Center for a year rather than a full term?  The President’s office had explained that he thought it was an honor (you know, his status obsession since he is a failure) and didn’t think he had to contribute to the center financially like all the other Trustees on the Board, so was given the boot.

Reader: The one toilet in HQ is not dirty!  I clean it and the sink regularly. Please retract that remark!  It reflects on me as several people know I clean it. My response: Thank you for helping at HQ, it is important.  Seriously?  Of all the issues for this corrupt HRP, this is what you choose to send me?

YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS, or cry.  As we go to print, follow this. President Trump is sworn in. Honolulu progressives hold a Trump Protest rally with Beth Fukumoto as speaker. Fukumoto and Cynthia Thielen bash Trump to the cheering crowd of abortion-loving snowflakes. HIRA exposes Fukumoto, and puts heat on GOP HQ. Then, HIRA blasts R micro-caucus for unanimously making Fukumoto caucus leader and calls on them to grow some… guts to take Fukumoto out of leadership. HQ is paralyzed, go figure, but micro-caucus “discusses” Fukumoto situation. Ha, discuss. Somehow, hmmm, media is alerted to the caucus meeting. But, turns out the “discussion” is whether to apply a censure to Fukumoto. Seriously? Censure? Bob McDermott, Gene Ward, Andria Tupola, Lauren Cheape, Thielen are worthless. Ever looking for the excuse to bolt, Fukumoto takes her hurt feelings and CB: Fukumoto Bailing.

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “I think corrupt shameless arrogant HRP is very useful – for the Democrat Socialist Demonrats Scumbags.”  “HRP is completely useless. I recommend to start over. Clean The HRP Swamp of Corrupt insane leadership!  It’s time to Clean Hawaii HRP Swamp!  Let us work together to unite the party bring sanity to the State of Hawaii Republican voters…help support HIRA to Clean The Corrupt shameless Useless HRP Leadership!“  “It is frustrating that current leadership at HRP cannot unite, much less do anything else.“  Reader, on Pine “(At NB) I tried to expose her every chance I had; and she would lie to defend herself and attack me and get away with it.  Cedric Gates (D) and her are tight and protect each other and Caldwell (D).  An attack on one is an attack on the other, so they all retaliate and make up democratic bs stories and get away with them.  She is as bad as Hillary and Obama.“  “Time to drain the swamp at GOP Headquarters!“  About Agustin “did you really need to put in the part where someone said “Whoa, another Dem Bitch”?“  “Those GOP leaders entire mission is self-promotion.”  Reader to HQ “It’s frustrating that HRP ..  cannot endorse and campaign for a proven Republican (Slom) who’s received consistently perfect ratings from the ACU.“  “We did it without the Republican Party in Hawaii…Trump is President Elect.“  “Now…we change the Hawaii Republican Party.“  “drain the HRP swamp and either start over with HIRA lead cleanup and vetting of new members or may be faster start brand new party since the Republican Brand has been so damaged by the leaders, is meaningless, and became pathetic in HI.“  Carroll to HIRA “I heard Eric Ryan on the Carroll Cox show and he did a terrific job explaining why the HRP is so defunct!“

Gowan, BI “I feel there has never been a better time to revive and reorganize the Republican Party here in Hawaii. Out with the old, in with the new. The HRP in Honolulu is a complete failure.  Its failures are mirrored here on the Big Island, in West Hawaii.“

Reader, Slom supporter “HRP is blatantly ignoring Sam’s race — I asked the Oahu Chair yesterday if she was planning to devote any phone banking to him, and she rudely dodged the question because they aren’t doing anything. Spoke with Barbara Marumoto today, and she says it’s not just Sam’s race, but that they’re pretty much ignoring all State Legislature races.“

Berg, to HQ: “I will never support Djou or Duke again.  They are the problem along with you at GOP to embrace someone like Pine who endorsed DEM Matt LoPresti over Republican Bryan Jeramiah this go around- she even gave Jeramiah’s opponent $$$$.  Pine also endorsed Caldwell. When you finally kick Pine out of the party, I will your best worker bee cheerleader. You guys at GOP are pathetic“

Party Secretary Ready response “She’s not a Republican, hasn’t been for years“. Does not explain why Ready did NOT speak five months ago when Walden pushed for Pine’s endorsement.  Does explain HIRA’s ‘GOP is infiltrated” as HQ, Djou and Aiona encourage Rs to give to Pine.  She funnels your money to our Dem opponents. HIRA: PINE-HAS-GONE-TO-THE-DARK-SIDE. HQ and MSM won’t touch the story HIRA: Pine Flips Off Hawaii GOP.

Election.  We have the White House, Senate, House, majority of state houses, majority of state legislatures.  Our message to President-elect Trump “Drain the Swamp, Republicans and Democrats”.  Our message to the Trump-McConnell-Ryan team “Keep Your Promises”.  Yes, we’ll be pissed with both for the next four years, but it is better than the alternative. The economy, jobs, foreign policy, terrorism is why people voted, SCOTUS is what the election was all about: let’s do it right (no pun).   Election day is filled with good news of Republicans winning everywhere, and election night in Hawaii sucks.

Election, Hawaii.  Thank you: candidates, volunteers, donors.  HIRA also thanks you even if HQ does not HIRA: Thank you, candidates.  You didn’t fail, HRP did.  By 10 PM the damage was obvious and HIRA called for the resignation of the HQ’s incompetents:  “While every single GOP challenger went down in flames tonight, we also lost two Republican incumbents – State Senator Sam Slom (SD9) and State Representative Feki Pouha (HD47).“  HRP changes must be made to attempt to restore confidence.  SA saw the same incompetent HQ which gave no support, yet wondered why they lost every challenge AND Slom SA: Hawaii GOP Shrivel Effect “Hawaii Republicans this week continued their slide into near-oblivion on the state political scene.“  Can’t win until the disease is removed HIRA speaks to the election results.  1.4M residents, 750k registered.  58.3 voter turnout, is lower than Hawaii’s record-setting nation’s lowest 2012 61.9%. This follows a record low 38% in the primary. Those 44.5k “new” registered voters yielded only 400 more votes.  Absentee votes (AB and early) continues to rise and exceeded 50%.  Don’t blame voters.  Blame it on the lack of candidates, qualified and not, by your local GOP.
