I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “Vote for Trump/Pence to make America Safe and Great Again.“  Carroll campaign “It has been like pulling teeth to get any kind of press coverage or party support.  This is starting to become ridiculous!”   “Cheape-Matsumoto is pathetic.“  “HQ un-willingness or this case blatant refusal to hold Republican Legislators (Cheape) accountable not only to their constituents, but to the Party.  Just another reason why HRP continues to fail.“  “Boyd Ready the wagon-circler has invested a LOT of ego into HRP during the past decade.  His affliction?  He cannot admit he was duped.“  “this might be historically the most abysmal election year for HRP ever.“  “Ward – while promoting himself month ago HRP full blast about himself, in the end he pretended to be “one party one ohana” good boy by asking all candidates to send him their door piece file. He was promising to use data center to send all to specific districts from HRP HQ on behalf of specific candidates. Good idea but as all “skilled” politicians in our state do – promise everything deliver nothing.“    “Gene Ward is lost, too.”  “Anything Hellreich touches is screwed for all.”

Palcic to HRP “I received the GOP Voters Guide for our district and the Charter amendments guide.  BUT NOT our own Candidate email piece as promised by National Committeeman Ward.  Why the delay? I’ve sent the piece to you and the County Chairman twice.  Why can’t we have the complete list for our district, which might be, what, 1-2% of the total?  What makes our campaign such a great “security risk?”  We are putting forth a Republican message and supporting Republican candidates, as we have since 2004, and deserve better treatment from our own party.“

FINAL 2016 OPPORTUNITY

If you’re reading this in Hawaii, you have one chance to win the Presidential election, and likely win a targeted US Senate race.  In the next three days, call every one of your mainland family, friends and contacts.  Start with battleground states.  Must call, email or text is not good enough.  For Republicans and conservatives, remind them the election is about SCOTUS.  They must vote Trump.  For D friends (ugh) remind them why they should NOT vote Clinton.  You’ve sat out most this cycle.  Trump Hawaii is too little, too late.  We don’t rely on HRP’s corrupt ‘leadership’ to do anything.  Win the Presidency and the Senate.  Get on the phone, please.

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “What is the point of even being a Republican in Hawaii? This is so discouraging half of the party is Rhinos the other half sends out constant criticisms of the Rhinos.“  “I have tried to contact Fritz a couple times, but never an answer.  I can’t say it matters because I would expect nothing more than lip service from these guys.“  “it seems whenever self-professing “Republicans” are mad these days and are in a pissing contest, they feel the need to recite their DD-214 or academic CV as if that makes a difference.“  “I cannot campaign for a candidate because there is no one qualified running in Hawaii.“  “The best part is that Trump is loved by all these Hawaii Republicans who used to complain that HIRA, Lee and Ryan were too hard-hitting!!“

Degracia “there is ALWAYS the same pattern to self-declared political alignment when one is a RINO. When first called out for voting the wrong way, they call themselves “moderates.”  When called out over another vote, they call themselves “bipartisan.”  When they persist in voting with Democrats they become “independents” though still carrying an (R) for ballot access, and, if conservative outcry persists, they finish the evolution by doing a press conference to announce they have become Democrats.“

NRA Board of Directors www.NRA.org. Northern Virginia.  Committees met, mine are Military & Veterans Affairs Committee led by Ollie North, and Outreach Committee with Sheriff David Clark.  Hosted several Texas guests focused on 2A minority outreach.  Three committee days before Saturday Board meeting.  General Operations does more than imaginable – ranges, collectors, competition, historians, training, safety, conservation are just a few.  There is the NRA Foundation and legal actions.  However, 2016 focus is on ILA with a month until election.  Political Victory Fund endorsements NRA Political Victory Fund Grades.  Collecting signatures to run for NRA Board by petition – signees include Wayne LaPierre, ILA Chris Cox, Gen Ops Kyle Weaver, President Allan Cors (Hawaii in November), 1VP Pete Brownell, 2VP Richard Childress, HRA President Harvey Gerwig, Ollie North, Dave Butz, R Lee Ermey.  NRA does much more than politics but the political message is clear: vote for Trump and hold the US Senate.

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “I cancelled my RNC membership.“  “No Primary poll watchers.  Another missed opportunity by the incompetent cabal at GOP headquarters to hold the Office of Elections accountable.“  “Seems like they have their heads in the sand!  What a bunch of clowns!“  “Who knew a chairman could be less effective than Kaauwai or Chang.”  “D Union insiders told me that rail will get done all the way to Ala Moana…so these mayoral candidates promising no more Oahu taxes are full of crap!“  “All the people I’ve been talking to hate rail!  They want to stop construction.”  “I would never vote Djou.  He can’t be bought?  BS: he WAS bought by Lingle and fired loyal good staff in Chico and Stan“  “the Party endorses someone who is Anti-Trump.“  “Charles turned traitor and doesn’t deserve my vote“  “I’m no longer sure what Charles wants for the rail, that changes daily.“  “many of my friends have pulled back from the support of Charles Djou, although the liberal regime at HQ has smiled upon him.“  Voting for Djou “I think I’m washing my hair that day.“  Email to HIRA “I am very grateful to HIRA for exposing the corruption that has plagued the Hawaii Republican Party (HRP) for decades!  I refuse to support the HRP financially because of your excellent investigative reporting!“

Fenton FB post: Bob McDermott informed me at [state convention] that he went down on his knees to George Paris at the ironworkers (to get the endorsement).  Sounds like McDermott-speak.

Finances – By the Numbers – Election – Convention

-HRP FEC www.fec.gov  You want to give them the benefit of the doubt, then: July is RED, AGAIN.  Rohlfing won’t make donor calls, Ward hasn’t produced as promised, they leave almost 3500 in bills for next month, and RNC finally stops wasting $ in Hawaii.  Receipts $12,939= 7,564 contributions + 0 RNC + 5,375 nearly empties state account (see below).  FEC Sustaining Donors: 4/14 Exec Cmte, 3/51 District chairs, 2 party members.  When leaders don’t buy in, don’t expect others to do so.  Disbursements $14,870 = $3345 Tagavilla salary+1445 payroll tax+348 health insurance, 1476 mortgage, 3853 property tax, 1524 new compliance company is taking HQ for a ride, 405 cable, 734 copier rental, 150 Mailchimp, 293 printing, and 1000 refund of an illegal donation.  Building maintenance, accounting, office supplies held for a double hammer next month.  Zero for electioneering, and no communication or candidate support or staff hiresCoH for operations about 12k + CSC 5k soft money + 5k counties. 31k mortgage account for 97k remaining mortgage. 14/21 months this election cycle in the RED.  Since January 1, 2015 HRP is RED 24.5k.  For the election cycle, HRP is 28k in the RED i.e. living off the RNC funds Saiki did NOT use to elect Rs last election.  No funds or plans for 2016 campaigns & elections.  HRP red 27/43 past reports.  13 Rohlfing months even with $25k from Presidential campaigns, CC event, and LDD show Rohlfing/Hellreich/Liu team shortfall of 35.8k. HRP red 8/14 months under R/H/L and now 1/1 under R/H/W (Rohlfing/Hellreich/Ward).

I am wrong:  HRP sadly must continue $1500/month for ‘compliance consulting’.  Treasurer Smart touts being formally trained – she could save us 18k+/year.  HRP is no longer big money, R/H/W (Rohlfing/ Hellreich/Ward) raise less than some council campaigns.  Then, we read the Hawaii National Federation of Republican Women finance reports.  Smart oversees the reborn Hawaii chapter.  Read part two to see how suspect is their reporting.

Coincidence: soon as Rohlfing heard HRP is to be sued for stealing national convention credentials from HIRA President Ryan, HRP announces a no-notice ‘meet your chairman’ raiser.  $125 for a light lunch and ‘an update’ of how HRP wins in 2016.

-HRP CSC Hawaii Campaign Spending  First report for this year.  1. HQ doesn’t know how to use the soft money state account, 2. no support to candidates, and 3. IMS took HRP to the cleaners as Thomason slinked out the door.  For the first half of this year, receipts = 42,661, disbursements = 48,086, CoH drops to 10,469 (minus the 5,375 to FEC account). Should be a place for soft money, e.g. PACs & corporations, and specifically NOT individual donor hard money. Candidates waste your contributions by laundering $ to HRP.  To buy an event table, candidates use your contribution to eat free = Aiona $10,100, McDermott 3485, Ward 3000, Agustin 1823, Tagavilla laundered her campaign of 2500 to pay her salary (perhaps against the law to use campaign funds for personal expenses), Fukumoto 1527, Ching 1500, Cheape 1092, Tupola 550, and Moses emptied his from six years ago 300. When candidates use campaign $ to attend a party, donors should give elsewhere.  Donors should question candidates’ judgement – what is the ROI on their HQ investment?  Other donors include A&B PAC 2500, HEI 5000, BankoH 1000, and HNFRW 1500.  A few sustaining donors (hard money, bad idea) = 2 Exec Cmte, 2 district chair, 2 party members.  Most funds went to FEC account 29300, state convention food 14862, website design 625, Kailua parade 450, and 300 to ‘volunteer’ Camailleri 300 as parliamentarian.

In addition to the gross amounts from the FEC account, IMS received an average 1438/month from CSC account September to March, knowing the public wouldn’t see it until after the IMS contract was done.  It was never presented to the State Cmte.

Wasting your contributions.  The previous period Aiona gave HQ 7600, McDermott 1800 (he gave HQ more than he raised that period).  The period before Aiona gave 6600, McDermott 1500, Cheape 900.  They don’t need your $, and you should be thanked for (indirectly) contributing to HRP.

-Not all Rs are incompetent “(RNC) announced it raised $199.5 million this cycle, including $27.2 million in July.  The Party currently has $34.5 million cash on hand.“  .. even after many of us quit contributing.

Readers’ Comments – Quick Hits – HRP & Campaigns

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “Walden is biased in this and is incapable of making a fair and impartial decision.“  “the HRP is offering No real anything.“  “we are aware what we have with Beth using HRP for her own gains. . . wouldn’t trust her with anything.“  From NV “The real problem is the dominance inside the GOP of RINOs like Miriam Hellreich, who have squandered more than one chance to strengthen the HRP by pushing Conservative values within the party and recruiting Conservative candidates. They prefer to play the middle, which turns into Dem Lite.“  “(Djou) Helped reveal” massive cost overruns? Is he serious? That’s rich claiming credit for that. The media was already talking about this for years now. Al Gore invented the Internet too I suppose.“  “Want to help Charles?  Just let all your Democrat friends know he hates Trump.“  About Rohlfing email appeal “Since when is HRP going to do any GOTV??   People have already been voting for a week.  What a douche!“

Independence Day.  Reader “Fritz sent out an email with the Declaration of Independence and the HRP LLIFE non-platform on the same page.  How embarrassing.”  “Djou writes a touching story of a 1LT who gets hit in combat, then shows a photo of ….. Djou.

-State of the Hawaii Republican Party.  Reader “I can’t do it. I have the absentee ballot all bubbled in for Republican Party, signed, and sealed in the envelopes but they’re still sitting in my car for several days now. I haven’t worked up the nerve to actually drop it in a mailbox.“

Trumpified, part 1

Aloha Friends. Welcome back. Part 1 of 2.  Trumpified

This month is mostly about our National Convention delegation.  Trump, Cleveland, the trip, all were fine.  The Hawaii delegation and ‘leadership’? They were a mess, worse even than the mess-practiced HRP.  However, remember, 2016 is about SCOTUS, all about SCOTUS.  Let’s begin ….

Meetings – Finances – By the Numbers – Convention

ATR call with Senate Leader.  Norquist, Americans for Tax Reform, hosts 30-minute call for conservative leaders with McConnell.  McConnell touts successes: rewrite NCLB, trade authority, SS reform, anti-PR bailout, environmental law, GMO labeling, tax extender relief, 5-year highway bill.  Rescinding OCare & defunding PP – not expecting Obama to sign.  SCOTUS nominee won’t get hearing.  Ds make guns political, so no new action. Races: 24 seats defense vs D’s 10.  Next call with Speaker Ryan.

State Committee.  April had only 20/51 district chairs (even as Exec Cmte members double as their own district chair), only 4/16 NI and no BI district chairs, zero from East Honolulu.  July’s pre-Primary meeting had only 14/51 districts (less than 10% precinct chairs statewide).  Liu skips, in four years as placeholder NCM he attended less than five quarterly meetings.  In April, Treasurer Smart says party has “substantial” CoH; In July, Smart warns without explanation that funds will “not last to the end of the year.”  Cmte avoids James’ motion to throw CD1 candidate out of the party D when confronted with their hypocrisy of having not done so with the 8-10 Rs-who-endorse-Ds from the past two cycles.  Rohlfing punts on 2016 “This year is only a building block for 2018.”  HIRA/So What If We Gave Up?   Smart reports $61k operating funds (5k is county), 95k total (i.e. 34k mortgage).

RNC Meeting.  Resolutions, Contest Cmte, General Session.  Ho hum, we’re focused on Convention.  Several high-priced events (your contributions provide perks for RNC members).  No chair at Chairmen’s meeting as Rohlfing says he had flight issues.  Hellreich looks ragged, Liu is not seen.  Ward’s first appearance, with Rohlfing’s proxy – no experience, having not read the rules, never been in a meeting much less a Rules meeting – as two Trump-supporting proposals were voted down.  Everyone moves to their state hotels on Saturday, I stayed downtown with the NRA.

Pre-convention. Angst & in-fighting. Unorganized outsiders squashed by the establishment+Trump.  Good on Platform dailysignal/Despite LGBTQ members, Platform Stays Conservative and not on Rules thehill/Establishment Wins Rules Fight.  Platform is more conservative and more detailed (hint HRP) than 2012.  Platform Cmte ran long so I did radio spot for Tony Perkins to summarize progress and pitch 2A.    Paikai got photo with RNC General Counsel, not comprehending that Ryder bit*ch-slapped Paikai & Hellreich over their ‘let’s-break-the-rules-and-oust-a-guest’ faux pas.  RNC View the platform here on GOP.com.  My primary goal = Platform remains strong on 2A.  Credentials overturned two RNC decisions and publicly embarrassed CO and this parody is too good to miss daily-show/Virgin Island Delegates.  Rohlfing missed Credentials (supposed flight issues points that he never intended to attend RNC meeting) and Hawaii is the only state to NOT have two members on each convention committee.

Dayton first week wrap, and convention preview SA/Rs Hit Convention.  “Lee is a member of the National Rifle Association’s Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, and he joined members of the NRA staff and board members in Cleveland as they monitored the GOP platform discussions to ensure the party maintains its strong support for Second Amendment guarantees of the right to own firearms.“

Convention.  If you read this report then you watched or read about the national convention.  Lid:  The floor at the Republican National Convention was the political equivalent of a Michael Bay movie on Monday afternoon, with procedural chaos and some walkouts breaking out as #StopTrump GOP activists unsuccessfully demanded a full floor vote that could have been a final shot at denying Donald Trump the nomination.  Disorderly D convention Redstate/Chaos, berning flags (and people), booing. Down below, you’ll read about the Hawaii delegation which you didn’t see in the media. No Hawaii media traveling with delegation.  First time I recall that lack of local interest.

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “Aiona said that HRP needed more than “just a voice.” Except, he doesn’t even provide a voice.“  “Please call asap.  Want your advice on my running for US Senate.“  “Are you a candidate for Congressional district 1?“  “Marumoto’s son works for candidate running against Sam.  So who gets her Poisonous endorsement?“  “Rego, the district chair running for Clinton delegate?  She worked for Djou at Council.”  “Anyone who has observed Ward knows that he is there for his own status and no other reason.“  District Chairman Kulbis to Rohlfing about his new HQ ‘censorship policy “We followed your email policy, however, at the time of this email we have not received any response, or even an acknowledgment that you received our request.  If you’re not going to send the email at least have the courtesy to let us know.“  Candidate “Thank you Brett. This is exactly what I found after [James] promised to get back to all who emailed.”  Reader “I was a GOP candidate in 2012 and ‘14.  Our party promised to support me both times but that didn’t happen. I never received a single dime from our party, never received the lists promised, and not one Republican made a campaign contribution.  I had no support from my party.“  Campaign “we had no expectations that there would be any support from HRP.“  “They used to carry the list of District Chairs, but now there is no such list on the GOP website.“  “No list because they have gotten rid of every chair that was a pain to them, not bothered to fill in because they don’t want to stir the hornets’ nest of people that might make waves.  Those spots will be filled in with friendly appointees if needed.“  “Our last House District caucus was held way out in Waialua, out of our district.  I suspect that Fritz Rohlfing was up to his usual tricks and arranged the caucus to be held there.“  “Our district caucuses are put way out of the district in places where nobody will find them. The state party arranges that.“  “Hellreich and her puppets are deliberately driving the party into a ditch and keeping it there.“  “Oh my! Rod Tam is now a Republican? Djou running for Mayor?  Now I know that Republicans are completely irrelevant.“  “Donald Trump should FIRE Paikai!  He looks like BAD NEWS!“  Comments on Cheape “I appreciate your piece on Matsumoto.  The nonchalance with which she approaches elected office makes the head spin.  She needs to take up shift work at the family egg farm.“  “If you’re still young and learning, get the f*ck out of Room 303 at the Capitol.“  “Next opening day, everyone bring a cardboard box to Rep. Matsumoto and tell her what to do with it as she won’t have a clue close to her 30s.“  Challenging Theilen (the D) filing papers “Rohlfing is insane!“

NCFNRA banquet.  National Capital Friends of NRA Inaugural banquet.  Over 200 attend, each surprised to find there are so many 2A supporters in and around the nation’s capital.  Sold out ballroom and outer mezzanine, two raffled Barrett’s helped) at historic Army-Navy Club.

-National Convention Hawaii Delegation Meeting.  Never needed more than one meeting, reader “the third of one meeting”.  Reader “Had Rohlfing, Hellreich, Liu done their job, this would be completed in the one meeting following convention, as in the past. “  Hellreich’s demands “Bring your checkbooks and credit cards” to pay a fee we haven’t agreed on and writes that the meeting is “critical”.  Attendees “When the attendees have no say, decisions are deferred to future unscheduled meetings, when there is no leadership, someone should explain how this became critical.”  “Paikai, who should have been prepared to be delegation chair, and Trumpers’ actions after convention didn’t help this to be an organized, unified process“.  “Nathan’s attitude and nastiness at the first meeting set the tone.“  “For a delegate on a budget, this poor planning would be a nightmare!  HRP is trying to squeeze extra money out of the delegates, pretty outrageous.”  Helleich, day prior “The agenda may not be available ahead of time but it will be comprehensive. If we don’t cover any subject that anyone is concerned about, we will discuss it. The meeting will not end until we have addressed all questions and concerns.”  Delegates “I feel penalized for being part of this Delegation. These people are so discouraging.“  “Delegation fee?  Appears the Trump team didn’t know and didn’t ask as they were taken completely aback “  “Some had no idea they would have to pay anything! This included Paikai!“  “At the last meeting, Nathan repeatedly asked “where are we gonna get the money for this or that” and I said “your candidate is a businessman, why can’t he pay for it?” and Miriam kept cutting in, “No, we can’t do that, they won’t do that” and I said “Did you ask?”“

Incompetence.  Following Trump Hawaii divisiveness of the last meeting, Hellreich and Paikai continue to spilt the Hawaii GOP.  Delegate “I am not encouraged by the lack of HQ/Trump info and preparation, and lack of leadership.“  Paikai’s “mother” Hellreich sat to his left to coach him.  Three meetings and still not enough info to decide on lei or shirts, or MN activities.  Clear that the only reason for this meeting was for Hellreich’s motion, not an agenda item, to remove Ryan from the delegation.  Using Robert’s Rules, in violation of RNC Rule 28, Paikai eventually got through a vote (absolutely confused by Hellreich’s “Call the question”).  Warned about RNC Rule 28c, the Trump lemmings fell at Hellreich’s feet.  The delegation voted to remove a qualified guest of a qualified delegate of a competing campaign.  HIRA:  Island-Liberals-Block-HIRA-Leader-from-Attending-RNC-Convention  Common with HRP ‘leaders’ and Trump suck ups, emotions override principle.  Not necessarily bad people, just weak.  Even Rohlfing, who much dislikes Ryan and who authored the party Purity Pledge, voted against Hellreich.  King, afraid to cross Hellreich could at least abstain.  Weak-principled people listed here, Hellreich has no principles.
