Embarrassing GOP, part 1

Aloha Friends. Welcome back. Part 1 of 2.  Embarrassing GOP.

There are many strong and energy-filled conservatives and Republicans in Hawaii.  Thank youThe Hawaii Republican Party can be better.

Writing to conservatives & Republicans, mostly in Hawaii, I email rather than blog because this is a (quasi) private discussion. These reports chronicle HRP’s story with enormous amounts data and solutions. My perspective is that of conservative, Republican, former State Party Chairman & RNC member. I am not here writing for any of my current conservative organizations, nationally or in Hawaii. These reports augment what you should hear from HRP, or what you need to research. Ask party leaders to act, or continue to lose. We won’t always agree but we should be informed. Hawaii conservatives should know they are not alone. Please forward this to conservatives or ask to be removed.

Meetings – Finances – By The Numbers

NRA Annual Meeting, Louisville. www.NRA.org  You MUST attend. 80,452 gun people. Exhibit Hall with 10 acres of guns and stuff from 650 vendors.  Days are long, nights are longer. 2,200 attend NRA Foundation dinner.  Corporate Luncheon raised $2.1M in 30 minutes.  8,000 see Trump at ILA Forum. Toby Keith in concert and 35,000 at the free outdoor Country Jam concert. ILA updates and 1,200 at ILA banquet.  If you believe in the Second Amendment, if you’re a gun guy/gal you must someday attend.  At BoD meeting, Allan Cors reelected NRA President. NRA endorses Trump. Personally told Don that NRA members fully support his and brother Eric’s pro-2A position.  Next year: Atlanta.  Disclaimer: I am on the NRA Military and Veterans Affairs and the Outreach Committees.

-HRP State Convention. BEFORE.

HRP wouldn’t, so HIRA provided a preview with candidate bios and rules changes Tomorrow’s State Convention.  Reader “If HIRA hadn’t informed me, I wouldn’t know.  HRP doesn’t tell or do anything.”

Rules. Dishonesty is one reason Rohlfing can’t get support for HRP. Cancelling Elections. “Change the rules, cancel the election, and stay in power.  That’s exactly what corrupt party officers led by Fritz Rohlfing at the Hawaii Republican Party are trying to get away with.“  NCW candidate, though, thinks they were ignorant of the unintended consequences of cancelling 2017 convention.  Incompetence vs. conniving?  Reader to Walden ”I am no longer an elected member of the Rules Committee.  Per Rules Section 413, our House District did not meet and my term “ended on the day when the election should have been held”.  So there was no real rules committee which had no real rules meetings and came up with no real rules change proposals which presented no honest proposals to the convention which approved changes which weren’t properly forwarded by the (non) committee.

Platform. HIRA: We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Platform.  Reader “OMG, this is worse than I thought. Keep the neutral platform.  Pass resolutions to honor dead politicians, fund the Democrat social agenda, and support our troops.  Irrelevance has a new synonym in the thesaurus: Hawaii GOP.“

Election. A dishonest placeholder Liu calls it quits.  Lingle hired a dirty Liu (in the Senate hearing about his just-like-Democrats shady contract awards, Slom (ACU 100) said Liu was either dumb or incompetent) MidWeek: Lingle and the Liu Ruse and campaigned to get him elected NCM.  Thanks to Lingle and Liu, party funds, volunteers and number of candidates are all down since Liu was elected. HIRA: RNC Candidate Overview.  Degracia is a smart guy, who wants to make a difference.  Ward (ACU 38) promises big amounts of fundraising, which begs the question: Why has he waited two decades to raise money for the party?  Ward, only about Ward, is known for his “wet finger in the air testing the wind” convenient conservatism.

Smart, who fashions herself conservative but votes with liberals, tries a ‘stealth campaign’ to challenge Hellreich in her 26th RNC year.  Smart’s first Exec Cmte vote was to sue conservatives; her next was to help hide the unauthorized spending by Rohlfing.  The liberal Hellreich, who provides no leadership, is disliked at the RNC almost as much as at HRP.

HIRA: GOP Hits Rock Bottom. A shockingly high level of internal dysfunction, disarray and disorganization reveals itself. Team Rohlfing wants a neutral platform, a silent message, a weak organization, and to make no case to voters. Hellreich and Rohlfing and Saiki (ACU lifetime 50) have a history of recruiting ‘do-nothings’ for key party posts; folks who only stick around for a few months of their two year term in office.  Hellreich has personally overseen the decline of the Hawaii GOP.

[pullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Revelations of HQ money hanky-panky coincide with Rohlfing/Hellreich/Liu (R/H/L) hiring a lawyer to silence HIRA. Had HIRA succumbed, we’d never know of HRP HQ corruption.  HIRA still waiting for our impotent HQ to initiate their lawsuit.  HQ is feckless, as always.[/pullquote]

Convention – DURING

CB says Fukumoto (ACU 2015 36) got panned CB: Tearful Fukumoto Run Off The Stage and SA said it was worse SA: Rohlfing Saves Fukumoto From More Booing “the Hawaii Republican Party appears poised to extend its long and painful losing streak.“

HIRA: GOP Convention High (and low) Lights “The single most memorable incident was when RINO Beth Fukumoto (ACU 36) was booed off stage.”  “Sam Slom (ACU 100) gave a rousing speech insisting Republicans have to “take it to the Democrats.”  “Real Republicans led by HIRA won a massive victory against party corruption and incompetence. The power grab led by Andrew Walden and Fritz Rohlfing was a sneaky attempt to change party rules so that next year’s state convention would be cancelled; thereby keeping current party officers in power for a couple more years.“  “The Prophet Nathan Paikai revealed himself to be a complete sociopath in addition to a total psychopath.”  “State Attorney General’s office apparently confirmed that felony criminal indictments are still a strong possibility in the strange and still unresolved case of former GOP state legislator Richard Fale for wire fraud and for deliberately failing to disclose tens of thousands of dollars in hidden campaign income.“  “The decision to reject Rohlfing’s executive director Tagavilla to serve as Delegation Aide and unceremoniously uninvite her from the convention was both shocking and embarrassing.“  Thomas, says she does “not represent the Oahu League of RINO Women”, though she and they support a neutral party platform and faux Republicans for public and party office.  Hellreich receives endorsement from Paikai “She is my mom” and McDermott “gave Hellreich his “unbridled enthusiasm”, two people she despises.  Coffee “This is a season for status quo” perhaps missed the past year of Trump ‘status quo’, or the news the past five years as Hellreich drove HRP into irrelevance.  If Smart’s ‘stealth’ campaign wasn’t doomed from the beginning, having Fale’s (detained by police after convention for harassment) endorsement did it.

Rohlfing again embarrasses himself by having a state chair come to Hawaii to speak in his place.  AZ chair Graham, running for RNC chair (not mentioned this weekend), has less political experience than Rohlfing but has been considerably more effective.

Three NI chairs stood against biennial because it included that they couldn’t host the convention.  Each offered to host, though they are as incapable as the Oahu crew.  Moot.  Section 201 requires the county for next year to have accepted the convention by February of this year – Not that this crew follows their own rules or that they do ANY advance planning for convention.

Reader “Have they done a review of this event?  No caffeine (Mormon choice)?  Have they started their plan for next year’s convention?  There were people there from neighbor islands begging for the opportunity to host.  Should tell everyone which Island it will be. We used to look forward to those trips!“

-HRP FEC www.fec.gov April comes in BLACK by emptying the state account.  Receipts $18,309 = 7,303 contributions + 900 RNC for charity state + 10,104 from state account.  R/H/L did better this month after raising only 600 in March.  Sustaining Donors on record: 5/14 Exec Cmte (no Liu, Rohlfing and only 1/4 county chair), 5/51 District chairs, 4 party members.  When leaders don’t buy in, don’t expect others to do so.  Disbursements $14,001 = $3365 Tagavilla and 147 Simon (he fled to mainland) salary+2517 payroll tax, 1476 mortgage, 1538 new compliance company is taking HQ for a ride, 252 cable, whopping 900 digital consulting, another 1632 Pres caucus for facilities and printing, 102 copier, 734 equipment rental, 157 exterminator, 50 postage, 500 voter files, and some mailchimp.  Deferred health insurance, building maintenance fee and accounting charge puts April’s bills off until May.  Zero for electioneering, and no communication or candidate support or staff hiresCoH for operations about 13k + about CSC 5k soft money + 6k counties. 35k mortgage account (+4k in CSC) for 100k remaining mortgage. 11/18 months this election cycle in the RED. Since January 1, 2015 HRP is RED 9k.  For the election cycle, HRP is 12k in the RED i.e. living off the RNC funds Saiki did NOT use to elect Rs last election, with no funds for 2016 campaigns & elections. HRP red 24/40 past reports.  Twelve Rohlfing months: $25k Presidential campaigns, CC event, and LDD show Rohlfing/Hellreich/Liu team a shortfall of 20k+. HRP red 6/12 months since Hellreich crowned Rohlfing.

-Two years as county chair and a year as state chair, Rohlfing announces 73/246 precinct chairs.  The basic grassroots building block, less than 30%, and we know that’s inflated and they don’t participate. Claiming 44 district chairs, he can’t even put a placeholder name in all 51 districts.  Only nine districts were on the Rules Cmte, only 14 attend the State Cmte meeting.  Suspicious numbers.

-One reason Rohlfing, Hellreich and Hickling can’t recruit chairs: HQ usurped district responsibilities per party rules to fill their delegate positions for the state convention.  The move by HQ to fill the convention with establishment people gives district chairs no reason to recruit new members.

By the numbers

0.  Credible candidates for Mayor, US Senate, either House seat. HRP has no assets, few candidates. The three R candidates for Takai’s CD1 seat pulled papers to run also for another party. More Libs running for State Senate than Rs, with no R in 60% of the Senate races.  Rs in only 26/51 House seats, 51%, and seven are incumbents.

1.  Week after national delegation members make their air reservations to Cleveland, Tagavilla provides RNC memo announcing airline discounts.

6.  HRP members/district average at convention though HQ touts a less-than-truthful 30,000 members. Less than 300 voting (295) at convention.

6.  R legislators endorsed by HSTA teacher’s union: Ward (ACU 38), Fukumoto (ACU 36), Cheape (ACU 9), Pouha (ACU 18), Thielen (ACU 24). Not? Slom (ACU 100), Ds Kong (ACU 45), Oshiro (ACU 29).

18.  HRP “filled” the stage with a cringe-worthy 18 candidates on their candidate (perp walk) parade; for the more than 100 races at the federal, state, and local level.

34.  R House micro-caucus ACU average rating. Slom = 100, Cheape = 9. ACU Ratings Hawaii 2015

41.  Months since the ’12 required HRP financial audit was to be conducted. 29 since the ’13 audit were due. 18 since HRP chair promised. Donors don’t give when finances are in question.

160.  Days (as of June 1) to the Presidential election.

-Inside baseball: House caucus cat fight continues the tussle between the two tiny factions inside the tiny Republican caucus.  Festering from last year, this year the liberal Fukumoto (ACU 36) faction ousted less-liberal Tupola (ACU 45) from House Minority leadership.  Tupola & McDermott (ACU 55) are training candidates which Tupola thinks, if elected, will help her gain the minority leadership position.  Progressive Fukumoto faction is doing what they can to stymie her effort.

At state convention, one goal for party leadership is to force changes to party rules to protect their establishment clan.  Another is to elect the RNC national committeeman. The local party uses their committeeman and woman as ceremonial figures.  Though good perks, the two members provide no value as do the other 166 other RNC members.  Consequently, the position doesn’t matter to anyone outside the local party.  The ‘man’ place-holder, Ted Liu, is not running for re-election.

Conservative Danny Degracia was first to file for NCM, only a month before convention demonstrates a lack of party enthusiasm.  Degracia soon received a call from progressive Fukumoto’s (ACU 36) husband; disgraced former state chair David Chang said he would run against Degracia.  When word of Chang’s run surfaced, ‘conservative’ faction Gene Ward (ACU 45) decided to run against Fukumoto’s husband.  Reader “David Chang is ridiculous. I can’t respect him. He should show more spine.  He sets a poor example both as a man and as a commissioned officer.“  Activist Jack “The Music Man” James said he’d run, as did oft-distracted film-maker Jason Jones.

Then there’s Ward, readers “Many Republican staffers found themselves scratching their heads as to why Ward would repeatedly vote “WR” (With Reservations) on bills that were clearly “No!” votes or why he would add oral floor discussion to bills that other minority members were trying to kill.  When Ward would be asked to speak on the floor – even when provided prepared statements – he would forget to speak.  He also was habitually late to conference committees as a Republican conferee, to the point that one senator (Slom) even said, “Hey, I had to be here, why isn’t he?”  “He has never raised ANY funds for the party, never held a raiser for the party, never contributed except using donor’s campaign funds for a free table at event, and was never on any party finance committee.  NOW he says he will raise funds?”

Ward’s challenge of Chang is part of the tiny Republican minority caucus cat fight.  A twist: the surrogates are the people – Ward and Chang – AND the party officer position.  None of this makes the media.  As small fish in a small pond, Republicans deservedly do not receive much attention.

This minority caucus cat fight, by way of the NCM contest, spilled into the public arena. Two days after Ward said he was running against Chang, Cheape’s (ACU 9) office manager Cindy Vaillancourt, of Fukumoto’s progressive faction, pulled papers to run against Ward for the House District 17 seat.

Chang drops out “because Gene Ward is running” and Vaillancourt withdraws from HD17 citing “a misunderstanding.”

[pullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] No organization does more to destroy the Republican brand than the Hawaii Republican Party. A pro-life national Platform; HRP elects pro-abortion Saiki.  A record-setting RNC fundraising cycle; Rohlfing owns the two lowest raising months of the last decade.  A historic majority in the US House & majority in the Senate; HRP has 1/25 senators and 7/51 reps.  RNC fights tax increases; ‘leader’ Fukumoto supports tax increases.  SA declares HRP “irrelevant”; conservatives flock to HIRA’s conservative message. Republican Assemblies formed 1934, once led by Reagan enroute to the Governorship and Presidency, are the solution to the establishment without principles.  HRP epitomizes what Milner writes “Death is not too strong a word to use here.  Influence-wise, the Republicans here are gone, and there is no resurrection on the horizon.  So it is safe to see one-party control as a given.” Republican Party is Dead The Assemblies remain the Republican Wing of the Republican Party.   [/pullquote]

The Hellreich-Smart race for the ‘woman’: No one likes Hellreich and conservatives don’t trust Smart. Hellreich maintains her matriarch status over the party which counts funds in the thousands (vs. tens or hundreds of thousands), counts incumbents with fingers to spare, and neighbor island district chairs by the, well, only two participate.  Smart promised conservative reform if conservatives supported her for Treasurer, but her first Exec Cmte vote was to allocate funds to sue HIRA.  Then, she formed a small group to reform the “platform’’ and once the conservatives were identified, she backed out.

CB answers CB: Ward Not Running Against Slom “Ward’s only opposition was Republican Cindy Vaillancourt, who pulled nomination papers May 9 to run for the District 17 seat, according to the latest filing report with the Hawaii Office of Elections.  She is the office manager for Rep. Lauren Matsumoto, who is part of a House Republican faction led by Minority Leader Beth Fukumoto Chang that rivals Ward’s more conservative faction.“

Vaillancourt’s ‘misunderstanding’.  She reportedly says she thought Slom was dying, Ward was secretly moving up to Slom’s seat.  She believed Marumoto-generated rumors of Ward running against Slom.  She was just an opportunist to take advantage of Slom’s ‘departure’.  Gosh, politics is a dirty business.

CB: Slom Ends Rumors of His Demise, Ward confirms HD 17 and Vaillancourt slithers back to Cheape.

-Conservatives should have stopped the social experiment of women in combat.  Now, we can’t justify excluding them from Draft Registration.  WaPo: Drafting Women.  If the US must ever force men to serve in the Infantry, then liberal social engineers must agree that wives and daughters must be also forced.

Memorial Day.  For almost three decades, my employer was “US Army” and occupation “Defender of Freedom.”  Last month a ‘war buddy’ reached out, we hadn’t spoken in a couple years.  Ed Roden was my Support Platoon Leader during Desert Storm.  One night, I launched him on a particularly dangerous mission.  Our attack into Iraq had several snags and now the 3rd ACR was behind us, not on our right flank.  This meant that to replenish our fuel, Roden had to lead his lightly-armed and even less armored fuel tankers through the front of a unit expecting enemy contact.  We couldn’t establish radio contact with the Cavalry, but our M1A1 tanks would need the fuel.  Both of us accepted that he had a 50-50 chance to safely get through the cavalry.  The odds got worse when you factor finding a fuel depot moving with the attack, and then bringing his unit forward in combat to join our Battalion which was continuing the attack to Basra.  We said our ‘goodbyes’.  I still get shivers reliving that mission.  Our tanks fought the entire day and continued moving in darkness.  Long story, made short – he succeeded.  We linked up about 4 AM two days later, about 34 hours, and immediately conducted a dangerous nighttime refueling operation while in contact with the Iraqi’s.  That day we were the only tank battalion moving forward, and we shared with a buddy who had the Infantry Battalion next to us so they had enough fuel to idle until their supplies caught up.  No one else risked sending their fuel tankers back for replenishment; Roden had the guts and leadership to accomplish the mission.  His experiences during those 34 hours are enough for an entire chapter.  Because of Roden, a lot of soldiers did NOT die.  Before, during and after, you think of all that could go wrong, how it could have turned out very differently.  And, you think of the blessing and privilege of having served with such incredibly brave and talented young men and women.

[pullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] HRP is unable to challenge Democrats’ and liberals’ ideology until we solve our internal and administrative issues.  We need a conservative, competent, organized, manned, and funded HRP with committed leaders. Republicans must first fix their house.   [/pullquote]

-Obama even more suspicious. When Obama and Ige push for increased background checks on lawful citizens but won’t vet refugees traveling with terrorist, then you know they are dirty.

-Join Hawaii Rifle Association to protect our gun (civil) rights.  Zimmerman continued Foxnews.com success exposes CA gun control overreach CA LG and Lawmakers Collide on Gun Control. “Newsom has resurrected failed policy initiatives in a too-obvious resume-builder for his governor’s campaign,” said Willes Lee, president of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies.“

ARE YOU SATISFIED? HRP needs leadership focused on HRP. Forward this – people need to know, you need to act. Part 2 coming.
