Writing to conservatives and Republicans, mostly in Hawaii, I email rather than blog because this is a (quasi-) private discussion. These reports chronicle HRP’s story. My perspective is that of conservative, former State Party Chairman and RNC member. I am not here writing for any of my current conservative organizations, nationally or in Hawaii. Hawaii conservatives need to know that they are not alone.

HIRA’s exposure of Saiki and R/H/L corruption shows that HRP needs cleansing. Fearful R legislators are as culpable as the State Cmte is incompetent.
Readers’ Comments – Fukumoto vs McDermott – Presidential Caucus
–I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. Fukumoto used donors’ dollars “$214 costumes for Beth? LOL. To “disguise” as being a Republican? Must not be working.“ “It is embarrassing for the Party to have heat towards HIRA and HIRA is the one alerting members to bad bills moving in the legislature. Instead of spending money and energy going after HIRA, the Party should spend money and energy informing it’s members of the bad bills that are passing through the legislative process. You can bet that if there’s a bill being heard in a committee that Dem activists and unions support or oppose, someone will be there to testify for it or against it.“ “Dump Donald Duck ! He is a Trojan Horse destroying the GOP!“ “I hope to institute a one day per week Trump rally along the roadside from the Convention until election day.“ “I’ve become very dissatisfied with those that call themselves Republicans in Hawaii. It is in name only, because what I hear is the same old stuff of what we get from the Democrats.“
Revelations of HQ money hanky-panky coincide with Rohlfing/Hellreich/Liu (R/H/L) hiring a lawyer to silence HIRA. Had HIRA succumbed they would have ceased operations the day before the controversial state meeting. Conveniently, then, we’d never know of this corruption. HIRA still waiting for our impotent HQ to initiate their lawsuit. They are feckless, as always.
-Last week, Fukumoto left McDermott out to dry on the House floor, in the middle of one of his tirades. On the floor, McDermott used his ever-expanding sixth grade vocabulary “We’re Republicans. Do your fu*king job,” confirming to the media his profanity. McDermott emailed to ‘party leaders’ a hit on Fukumoto (he tells lies so we don’t know if it is all true). Fukumoto fired back by calling McDermott a meany (she tells lies too). Our tiny micro-minority of seven is dysfunctional and broken into, mostly, two factions. McDermott says of the lies he wrote about me “[Fukumoto] helped me organize the Willes Lee letter to the NRA, we were working together” so give credit for bringing these two lightweights together – falsely (we note McDermott’s lies in last month’s report) attacking me.
McDermott confirms HIRA’s assertion that Fukumoto (1) is a democrat, and confirms the prediction that (2) she is going to change party …. and would have already had Souki and her liberal Rs not made her minority leader. McDermott-Warns-Predictions-About-Fukumoto-Are-All-Coming-True. Fukumoto fires back but does not refute or disagree with any of his allegations. NO-DENIAL—CLOSET-DEMOCRAT-FUKUMOTO-CONCEDES-MCDERMOTT-S-CHARGES. They both tell lies, but HIRA’s account is truthful.
-Reader says Dems respond to constituents, not Fukumoto “Fukumoto refused to respond because she is a crook. She knew [about rail surcharge] and acted without integrity, and is in hiding with the rest of you scammers. McDermott and Rs blow it on the rail surcharge….it hurts watching the R party fail like this… such incompetence! R’S are supposed to have integrity so when R’s are in on the scam, WTF? Talk about crippling and setting back the party decades.“ More Berg: “In return for your laziness, arrogance, and utmost hostility … no choice but to call you out as a liar and thief. You are a disgrace and have abused the peoples’ trust- fyi- please resign.”
-Fukumoto behaves like a Dem, Slom thinks that’s wrong. Fukumoto “I got elected as a Republican even though my district doesn’t like me being a Republican. I’m always going to put them above my party.” Slom “points to [Aiona] who downplayed a connection to the party when he ran for governor in 2010 and 2014, losing both contests, as well as other failed Republican elected officials who ran as centrists, including [Djou & Lingle]. “If leaders of your party run away from the brand, how do you expect to attract more people?“
–McDermott signed the ATR Taxpayers Protection Pledge. This is another lie to constituents and supporters. He voted FOR more taxes – to extend the rail tax. If he does not withdraw his TPP, we’ll take care of in a public manner. (You others are next.) www.atr.org

Hawaii Presidential Campaigns
-Hats off to Trump Hawaii. They won. Cruz Hawaii, second. Rubio Hawaii a far distant third. Kasich zilch. HIRA reported A-NEW-ERA-FOR-HAWAII-CONSERVATIVES-HAS-BEGUN
Trump 43% is 11 delegates (two from the HQ RNC members), Cruz 32% is 7 (one is HQ RNC member), Rubio 13% is one delegate, and Kasich is 10% resulting in zero delegates. Fale (she) blames Rubio’s poor showing on being “Too stupid“ among other reasons.
–Self-serving Walden can’t help himself. Walden, supposedly working for the party, posted the caucus results on his blog before HRP announced the results.
-HRP is embarrassed to announce that Trump and Cruz won. HRP tried to spin joy with 15,000 votes cast, 50% more than four years ago, hoping no one noticed that across the nation Republican voting is up 67%. Reader “Many were turned away (lost interest after long lines, confusing instructions, rude workers, computer verification slow down). If you assume 30% republicans in the state and Trump draws democrats and independents, it means RP achieved a 3% voter turnout.”
–Djou in SA denigrates the Trump campaign “Trump is not organized, he doesn’t have good guidance or leadership here (referring to Paikai, Franklin, DiRocco, Sutton, and King), he has not done any of the traditional work one would normally expect in a caucus, and like so many other aspects of Trump, I don’t get it.” He is right, he doesn’t “get it”. Trump Hawaii won big, Djou’s Kasich Hawaii won ZERO even after a fawning Buck gave him radio time and HQ helped by giving him LDD stage time. Our Cruz team, winning seven delegates, is organized and efficient. Whether Trump has a ground game or not, they got more votes out than did we, and a whiney Djou should admit that he got his butt kicked, again.
–Cruz Hawaii made national news when an email suggested Rubio is a good guy but DON-T-WASTE-YOUR-VOTE. Cruz national campaign was concerned until Cruz on Fox said, essentially, ‘it’s true.’ Rubio quit the next week after he got destroyed in Florida. We’ll never know if the Cruz Hawaii blast kept him from doing better, or if the additional media (or HQ finagling) stole him the one Hawaii delegate from Trump, or if the local campaign was simply incompetent and didn’t work to win more delegates. As the Rubio campaign whines, RedState time-reporter-used-fabricated-evidence-cruz-campaign. FoxNews “Rubio should have quit after getting shut out on March 8.“
–Walden instigates violence. A Cruz supporter got in an argument at a polling location (coincidently run by the Trump Hawaii leader) because Walden broke the rules. Party rules require campaigning (wearing a Cruz t-shirt) to be 50 feet from the ballot box. Walden issued instructions to polling locations that campaigning had to be 50 feet from the entrance to the polling location …. breaking RNC rules for changing local rules past last October, and without informing any of the voters. Police detain Romney- now-Cruz, guy Mark Bell when he is hassled by Paikai of the Trump campaign. gop-voters-trying-find-caucus-sites. It started, however, when Rubio leader Fale(she) whined to the media tempers-flare-at-hawaiian-caucus. An aggreesive Fale and explosive Paikai light Walden’s matches to start a fire.
–Caucus fell apart. Reader “Our last voter clocked out at 8:45PM. Fortunately, the police station across the street allowed the tally to be done in their lobby! We would have had to count the ballots in the rain and the wind.“ “Santorum broke all party rules when he was in last desperate attempt campaigning for Rubio.“ “6000 Trump supporters in this deep blue state were Republicans and quite a few Democrats signing Rep. card.“ “Much noise at the location concerning Dems registering with HRP to stack the deck for Trump.“ “2000 provisional ballots on top of 13000 votes, a 15% change in votes is suspicious.”
-SA & CB centered on the losers giving advice to the winners. Djou was sour, Fukumoto was whiney, Rohlfing tried to make a 3% turnout into a good thing. Djou dumped on the Trump team, the team that won 11 times as many delegates as his Kasich team. Fukumoto belittled Trump and outsiders, including conservatives, as Cruz takes seven delegates. These are the same small-minded people who plead for us ‘to all work together.’ Finally, CB got smart and did an (not necessarily flattering) article with the Trump winners. Embarrassing themselves, previous US House losers Hanabusa and Djou were on a local morning show this week – another example of the news asking the losers (for Clinton and Kasich) to comment rather than interviewing reps for the winners (Sanders, Trump).
-Star Advertiser March 13 Saiki, Djou out of step with isle GOP voters. It’s time for Pat Saiki and Charles Djou to back off. They don’t realize when enough is enough. Saiki’s comment that “all bets are off” if Donald Trump doesn’t win in the first ballot is typical of the defeatist attitude of local Republican “leaders.” The majority of GOP voters here chose Trump. Republican leaders need to support the will of the voter. They’ve let the lifetime politicians jam us with more taxes, an unaffordable rail transit system and gutless leadership.
-Gosh, Ben. After telling that there is a different Trump than the campaigning character, and that what he promises is just campaign talk, and that his insults are just ‘politics’, Carson says Trump Offered Me An Administration Position For My Endorsement. Then, there is the Santorum MOST-EMBARRASSING-RUBIO-MOMENT-EVER.
– McDermott joins Cruz, and Slom comes to Cruz when Carson drops out. The other R legislators still afraid to endorse, because R legislators are afraid, period. ENDORSE-OR-GET-OFF-THE-POT, signaling their preference for Clinton. Fukumoto won’t pick an R candidate but will hit one “Fukumoto declined to endorse a candidate, but isn’t holding back her dislike for Trump.“ “[Rohlfing] said he thinks Trump will do well, but is not sure he will win next week’s Hawaii contest.“ Milner notes the lack of R leadership Where is the GOP and Republican Legislators?
–Romney, sleazy at the last convention, loudly criticizes Trump for taking advantage of the rules that Romney shoved down our throats at the 2012 convention. Rules should maintain a level playing field. Just like our local party getting bit by their own changes (being called out to enforce their own Purity Pledge on their own people), the national party is getting bit by the rules they made to tilt the playing field.
-Looking more like a contested convention. Trump wants to maintain the eight-state rule but balks at the 1,237 delegate rule. Can’t have it both ways.
-Politics brings out the worst, or perhaps because McDermott, Fukumoto and other legislators tell lies, their activists think it is just OK. Kauai’s Sarmento was ‘with Cruz’ until we found out the night before the caucus he supported Trump but hadn’t told … his shame wouldn’t allow him to answer my call after-the-fact. A more public example: Maui’s Fagen agreed to be a county leader for Cruz. When her name showed up on the Rubio press release she told another lie “Oh, maybe because I contributed to him in the past”. Rubio leader Burton later confirmed Fagen was part of the Rubio team, while lying about her commitment to Cruz – lying accepted by Rubio Hawaii leadership of democrat consultant Nonaka, Fale (both), Marumoto. Whether the poor example by local ‘leaders’ such as McDermott or Fukumoto, or their personal failure, there is no room in politics for lying.
-Members running for party office used to participate in party activities to be prepared for the next level of politics. Folks were district chairs, a party officer, maybe cmte chair or ran a campaign, or were on the finance cmte, built local and national contacts, and had been to state and national meetings. In the past seven years, people who have no idea how a political party operates, how to make and maintain a political party budget, build coalitions, recruit candidates, write political communications, train activists, determine vote goals, produce a Leesburg grid, monitor federal and state finance compliance, or have neighbor island and mainland contacts … simply jump in. And, the incompetence shows.
