Trump & Cruz Voters Spank HRP Establishment, part 1

Aloha Friends.  Welcome back.  Part 1 of 2.

There are many strong and energy-filled conservatives and Republicans in Hawaii.  Thank you.  The Hawaii Republican Party can be better.

– May 19-21 NRA Annual Meeting, Louisville

– June 18-19 Sports Shooting Fair

– July 7-10 National Right to Life Convention, Virginia

Meetings – Finances – By The Numbers

-Billy Graham Honolulu rally draws 2500.  No HRP announcement, or collection of contact info.  Another lost opportunity.

displayCPAC, conservative mega-gathering.  Straw poll: Cruz 40, Rubio 30, Trump 15.  12,000-13,000 attend.  Dozens of main stage presenters, 80-100 breakout sessions, 30 radio & TV booths.  Only three attend from Hawaii (it is a conservative event).  Class-less Trump cancels after the last minute, upsetting his supporters.  Dinner with Sheriff David Clarke.  Fiorina headlines Reagan dinner.  Center hall display highlights Hawaii legislature (see photo showing Hawaii as 2nd “Least Conservative State”).  Cruz, on stage, Cruz Rocks CPAC. Disclaimer:  I’m on the ACUF board, CPAC host.

American Spectator Gala.  Ben Stein MC.  300 conservative-libertarians.  Senator Cotton recognized.

Weyrich Awards Dinner.  Didn’t make it, traffic accident (not me).  Conservatives recognize Mark Levin.

-Presidential Caucus.  Rohlfing & Walden try to host a professional caucus.  Trump 43% = 11 delegates, Cruz 32% = 7 delegates, Rubio 13% means Saiki, Aiona, Marumoto, Hellreich, Rohlfing, Fale, Santorum = 1 delegate, Kasich 10% = 0 Djou delegates, Bush 1 = 0, Carson 1 = 0.  More on this below.

-HRP FEC  February in the Black(!); last month’s concerns confirmed.  Receipts $70,212 = 59,310 contributions (may include 10k from state account) + 900 RNC for charity states + 2×5000 Carson, Rubio.  Sustaining Donors on record down to: 2/14 Exec Cmte (no Rohlfing or Liu, no county chair), 4/51 District chairs, 3 members.  When leaders don’t buy in, don’t expect others to do so.  Disbursements $58,119 = $3366 Tagavilla and 2198 Simon salary+456 payroll tax +1324 health insurance +1777 general insurance, 3579 city tax, 1476 mortgage, 1500 new compliance company, 253 phone, 152 cable, 350 campaign software, 1578 printing, 2400 data consulting, 5169 for TWO building maintenance payments, 185 office supplies.  LDD another 8740 Koolau catering, 650 another Kapena, 1456 Eventbrite, 3285 advertising, 1539 printing, 574 lei & flowers.  Presidential caucus 2294 supplies, another 351 Walden travel & lodging.  Zero election expenditures.  Message 1: In January and February, HRP ripped $25,000 from Presidential campaigns and all the LDD revenue but spent so much that they net only $25.4k (which pays only two months of their normal bills).  Scary message #2: Those unpaid bills which made January appear solvent came due, same as when Kaauwai & Fukumoto & Chang put us in debt five years ago.  CoH for operations is 32.4k + CSC 5k soft money (may be more from LD) +7k counties.  Also, 37k mortgage account (+4k in CSC) for 102k remaining mortgage.  10/16 months this election cycle in the RED.  For the election cycle, HRP has broken even i.e. no money for camapigns and elections.  HRP red 23/38 past reports.  Ten Rohlfing months:  including $25k Presidential campaigns, CC event, and LDD shows Rohlfing/Hellreich/Liu team a shortfall of 8k.  HRP red 5/10 months since Hellreich crowned Rohlfing.

-LDD Gross goal was $130k, the net is all that counts but they were afraid to set a goal … and we notice the lack of a “success” pronouncement.  With 25k FEC net revenues the last two months, they can’t fake meeting their goals, or spin their ability to help candidates this year.  Donors were wary after HIRA exposed Hellreich’s Martinez fundraiser Bait and Switch, fewer prior donors, more first time contributors.   Fewer candidates used their donors’ campaign dollars (that’s good) for a free table.  (In 2015, McDermott gave more of your donations to the party, $1800, than he raised in the entire second half of the year, $1400.  Donors include Ahu 1500, H Chong 2000, Djou 1000, Felix 5000, Jason Jones 1000, D Kim 2500, Lum 5000, Tseu 2500, Williamson 1500.  Wasted as shown here Lincoln laundry part 1 & Lincoln laundry part 2 with a list of legislators who use your donations for free food and tickets for party events. “Despite their promises that Lincoln Dinner ticket purchases and related donations will help candidates get voters registered, educate the public, and win elections, none of that is happening.“

HRP is unable to challenge Democrats’ and liberals’ ideology until we solve our internal and administrative issues.  We need a conservative, competent, organized, manned, and funded HRP with committed leaders.  Republicans must first fix their house.

Caucus meetings.  1/3 of districts held January-February rules-required organizing meetings with low, or no turnout.  A few more did so in the rules-breaking March extra period.  More than 1/3 won’t meet and no one will notice or care.  Welcome to HRP 2016HRP doesn’t want people to attend caucus meetings to become state delegates because those delegates may attend state convention and find that we have place-holders for national committeeman & woman, no election effort, and no Platform.  Districts are two months late in organizing for 2016 elections, or not at all organized.  HRP remains without more than 95% of Precinct Chairs.  Only 55% of districts have leaders and less than half of them participate.

Platform committee.  GOP neutrality on issues is maintained.  11 districts (21% of the state) participate, and a quarter didn’t return for the second meeting.  The third, last weekend, had 10/51 districts represented.  The small insurgent mostly-conservative group seeking to initiate a platform which addresses issues failed to make headway:  their action was tabled, HQ applied pressure, and Smart snuck away.   While better than LLIFE or the new LLIFER, most of their ‘new’ proposal was a rehash of the Lingle dem-lite Platform.   HQ is afraid to present solutions to Hawaii’s problems because “the democrats may criticize us.”  Rohlfing and Moses fail again.

By the numbers

5.  HRP lacks integrity to address Rs – Thielen (ACU 20%), Carroll, McDermott (60%), Pine, Fenton – who endorsed 2012 Ds against Rs. Add, 2014 Cheape (20%), Fukumoto (50%), Egge, and Hanneman’s ‘Rohlfing Rs.’

6.  Rohlfing/Marumoto SAY they have six non-incumbent candidates, 0 NI, for 64 legislative plus dozens of county seats. There are more Libertarian candidates than Republican.

34.  R House micro-caucus average ACU rating. Down from 38 in 2014.  80+ is conservative. Slom earns 100, Cheape is a 9. ACU Ratings Hawaii 2015

35.  Months since Hellreich wrote “the need to use massive voter registration drives to Increase our chances of winning.” Five since she again said “We need voter registration drives.”  Still not in Hawaii.

39.  Months since the ’12 required HRP financial audit was to be conducted. 27 since the ’13 audit was due.  16 since HRP chair promised.  Donors don’t give when finances are in question.

221.  Days (as of April 1) to the Presidential election.

-Fukumoto and Saiki attack Trump and conservatives. HNN: GOP Leaders Thump Trump. Trump is a Republican candidate and, well, all Republicans say they are more conservative than democrats (even Cheape and Thielen, who are not).  Your Saiki and Fukumoto say they have a right to do so, they do.  And, HRP has the responsibility to hold them to their own Purity Pledge, the pledge they imposed on the party to slow the exposure of their corruption.  Reader and FB comments “HI GOP needs a total makeover. Trump is not the problem.  The GOP is the problem because they have broken their campaign promises to us since 2008. How fair is it to ask Trump to make that GOP pledge to the party, and then GOP makes a concerted effort to get him out of the race?“  “It is outrageous, but to me it was so typical and who cares what Saiki says or BF-C?“  Giles, HD17 “I totally disagree with your (Saiki and Fukumoto) statements on Donald trump hurting other Republican candidates. Just because one disagrees with Trump does not make it true he is tearing us apart!“  Cross FB “I am NOT a member of HIRA, nor am I a supporter of Donald Trump, but I have been very concerned of late as to your (Fukumoto) loyalty to the Hawaii Republican Party. You are more interested in supporting the status quo in Hawaii government rather than standing up for the people of Hawaii and your constituents. I’m wondering how long before you (Fukumoto) and Charles Djou change parties, like Aaron Johansen.“

Kulbis, District Chairman, calls for State Cmte to enforce the Rohlfing-Hellreich “Purity Pledge”, the same way they ousted Montes for exposing Rohlfing and Hellreich’s corruption.  HNN: Rohlfing, Saiki and Fukumoto should be removed .  The Saiki/Rohlfing Purity Pledge “WHEREAS, it is a violation of the duty of loyalty and mutual support that all Party members owe each other if a member communicates to other members or the public in a manner calculated to:
• discourage participation in Party fundraisers and programs, or
• belittles or denigrates Party candidates or supporters through personal attacks, or
• makes false or misleading statements to discredit the political positions of the Party or individual Party candidates
“ and this is what Saiki said “Donald Trump has made a mockery of the presidency of the United States, I think he’s torn us apart.“  Fukumoto said “Trump is a problem” and “we also need to be constructive and our party’s not so good at that and that’s what I’d like to see us do better as she denigrates Rohlfing (too ignorant to notice) and the State Cmte.  Ready, our establishment hack, defends Fukumoto by asserting that she is a public official, forgetting that she too is a member of the State Cmte and subject to the same Purity Pledge reso he helped to pass.  Most hypocritical was watching Saiki and Fukumoto on the news defending themselves from their own resolution.  Readers “Hear. Hear!“  “Mr. Kulbis, I agree with you 100%. I stand with you and your statements, and I’ll gladly support you any way I can. Thank you for standing up for the Real Conservative PEOPLE in Hawaii.“  “it is nice to see a steadfast principled conservative in “BLUE” Hawaii!!“  “Beth is a joke as minority leader.  She even said on the mike buck show she wouldn’t support a republican candidate she didn’t like.“  “Amen!!! I totally agree… Keep up the efforts we appreciate it.”  “I agree 100%.“  “What you wrote about leaders of the HRP is sad but oh so true.“  “Congratulations on this excellent article.“  “What happened to our Republican Party?“

It tweaked Saiki and she wrote (another) frightened, whiney email back to Kulbis complaining that the mere suggestion of her violating her own Purity Pledge was an affront to her first amendment rights.  The establishment circles the wagons instead of doing what Rs do – seek accountability.  Rohlfing defends his benefactors, while HIRA calls them out for hypocrisy and for destroying what there is remaining of the party.  HIRA:  ESTABLISHMENT GOP ATTACKS CONSERVATIVES.

No organization does more to destroy the Republican brand than the Hawaii Republican Party.  A pro-life national Platform; HRP elects pro-abortion Saiki.  A record-setting RNC fundraising cycle; Rohlfing owns the two lowest raising months of the last decade.  A historic majority in the US House & majority in the Senate; HRP has 1/25 senators and 7/51 reps.  RNC fights tax increases; ‘leader’ Fukumoto supports tax increases.  SA declares HRP “irrelevant”; conservatives flock to HIRA’s conservative message.  Republican Assemblies formed 1934, once led by Reagan enroute to the Governorship and Presidency, as the solution to the establishment without principles.  HRP epitomizes what Milner writes “Death is not too strong a word to use here. Influence-wise, the Republicans here are gone, and there is no resurrection on the horizon.  So it is safe to see one-party control as a given.”  Republican Party is Dead The Assemblies remain the Republican Wing of the Republican Party.

-Hickling, the #2 guy in the party, Kauai email the night before the Pres caucus “There is no formal poll watcher registration process, so anyone who shows up saying they are a watcher will be accepted, but it would help if the poll leaders knew who to expect.“  Of course that’s not true.  A state vice chair making up rules demonstrates the incompetence and unprofessionalism of Walden’s process.

HQ fails to advertise the Presidential caucus.  Kauai Chair Yoder waits until day before and with only one email.  Reader “I asked him when they were going to start publicizing the Caucus and he FINALLY sent out an email this morning.“

-When asked what they could do to better advertise the caucus and increase participation Hellreich said “TV ads are too expensive.”  Notwithstanding Hellreich should be raising enough $ to advertise and HRP took $25,000 from five candidates and spent only about 5k on the event.  One postcard to only members, minimal on line advertising, no radio or print ads, two email to members.  Where did the money go?

-One conservative, one liberal.  One is Slom, one is Fukumoto.  hawaii-republican-caucus-fightACU rates Hawaii’s legislators R House caucus = a liberal 34

-ACU 2015 Ratings proves why House Rs are Ds.  HIRA says they’re RINOs: Out of 100: Fukumoto 36, Cheape 9, Thielen 27, Ward 45, Tupola 45, Pouha 18, McDermott 55.  Average house Rs = 34!!  This is why none are credible, and easily called NOT republicans.

-Headlines with Kenoi’s indictment imply that perhaps he thought it ‘OK’ to use taxpayer’s funds for lapdances and booze.  GOP  HQ offered the same defense, “Maybe they didn’t know …”, a couple years ago when then-chair Kaauwai and democrat consultant Nonaka used HRP donor contributions for almost daily Starbucks, lunch, Foodland meals on the way home for dinner and such.

-Rohlfing’s party “Action Plan” gives specific goals for FB, a minimalist two posts/week.  It is hard to fathom that a state political party in a Presidential race and local candidate selection, and halfway through the legislative session … HQ has one post between March 9-23.  Your party leadership – R/H/L and Comms bubba Mukk – have no message or messaging and no principles on which to base a message.  Their last “Weekly” Press release was March 11.  Indicative of how your folks at HQ just don’t care.

-Hearing protection.  Salmon’s Bill Makes It Easier To Buy A Noise Suppressor.  Join Hawaii Rifle Association to protect our gun (civil) rightsHRA’s Legislative Spread Sheet.  NRA BoD election Lee Running for NRA Board,  Please vote.

-A friend does work in Germany with refugees.  “One young adult arrived in Germany and asked when he could continue his studies. This broke the worker’s heart as she knew it would be a long time before this was possible and said that he first had to learn German.“

President, National Federation of Republican Assemblies, filed to run for the US Senate, triggering her departure from NFRA.  As Executive Vice President, I became President on March 18.  Pointed out to me:  next time Saiki and Rohlfing whine to NFRA about HIRA and my reports holding HRP and R legislators accountable, they’ll be writing to me.  NFRA Press Release

ARE YOU SATISFIED?  HRP needs leadership focused on HRP.  Forward this – people need to know, you need to act.  Part 2 coming.
