Fwd: [LLIFE] Fwd: Did you get this?

FYI.  Couple of things occurred.

In particular for those of you involved in CC or the property:  Below is a reso which Kaauwai sent through the (Resolution and) Platform Cmte this morning.  I used this copy to include Murphy’s comments, which may reflect some HRP member’s thoughts.  While this is a Rules year, reso’s are considered each year.

This is one of many reso’s which include defense of marriage, 1st amendment to protect practice of religion, 2d amendment to protect (really, really patriotic) gun rights, right to life, protection for anti-abortion medical providers, opposition to rail, support of victim’s rights…. and many more.  If you are interested in seeing any other these others, let me know.

Of note on email addresses:  HRP recently changed their server to a google platform which allows the administrator, HRP personnel, to read all email that is sent through a @gophawaii.com email.  I’ll come off of that address soon as I anticipate the proposed rules change to take me off exec cmte goes through.  This HRP change to a google server is why you are seeing email from me only from my aol address.

Rules:  Tuesday evening is a Rules conference call to announce the cmte-approved proposed changes to party rules.  I understand one is to take me off exec.  Another, that I haven’t yet confirmed, is to take all auxiliary organizations, or at least one in particular (OLRW), off the state cmte.  Another partially fixes their new presidential caucus process, including moving the date later (which makes us no more relevant than before) so that the RNC does not penalize our delegate allocation but still leaves many problems.  I do not have confirmation on the NCM/NCW election process change to make it an election by exec cmte rather than election by the members at convention.

On the Kaauwai-proposed slate for party officers.  At least, we have a (mostly) slate.  With a week to go, that is good.  I am disappointed that there are no contested elections, that there is little experience with state-level political operations and that Kaauwai will have to take nominations for Treasurer (of all positions) off the convention floor.  I am not surprised that the list has not been announced but many people are receiving bootleg copies of the list.  On the light side as an indicator whether these folks know about HRP or into what they are getting involved: at a district meeting, Gene Ward announced that he was running for vice President of the party.  Slom was one of the members who gently told Ward that HRP has vice chairmen, not vice presidents.  Of note, I expect our state senate candidate effort to be as weak as when we last had minority House leader Finnegan heading up recruitment.  It is an unavoidable matter of their priorities.

Is $5k a month exhorbitant?  I know small mom/pop grocery stores that pay that much a month for less space.

Not that I mind a different locale that may be closer to freeway off-ramps, better parking, closer to airport, etc.

Also, w/ a down economy, do we really want to sell now?

HAWAII REPUBLICAN PARTY RESOLUTION ON

FISCAL RESPONSBIBLITY OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Whereas, the official platform of the Hawaii Republican Party professes fiscal responsibility;

Whereas, the new political climate in Hawaii has significantly reduced contributions to the Party;

Whereas, the mortgage and basic facility costs of the Kapiolani Blvd headquarters exceeds $5,000 per month;

Whereas, the Party can conduct the same functions and events at a property located in a more modest part of town rather than the high real estate profile of the Kapiolani Blvd property;

Whereas, the floor plan and general layout of the current headquarters does not allow for optimal efficient use of its square footage;

Whereas, a political parties primary responsibility is to build a strong grassroots organization to support its candidates;

Whereas, a building does not contribute to the Party carrying out its primary responsibility or winning elections;

Whereas, the staff of the Republican Party are essential to carrying out the party’s primary responsibility and should be a budgetary priority;

Whereas, party members have extreme gratitude and appreciation for those who helped obtain the Kapiolani Blvd property but feel bound by the principles of fiscal responsibility, efficiency, and practicality to consider other real estate options;

Now therefore, the delegates of the 2011 Hawaii Republican Party Convention call upon the Executive Committee to work with the Oahu League of Republican Women to research new real estate options and present those options to State Committee by July 2011.

As Republicans, we believe in:

L)iberty
L)imited Government
I)ndividual Responsibility
F)iscal Accountability
E)quality of Opportunity.
