Trumpified, part 2

Aloha Friends. Welcome to part 2 of 2.  Trumpified.

There are many strong and energy-filled conservatives and Republicans in Hawaii.  Thank you.

Writing to conservatives and Republicans, mostly in Hawaii, I email rather than blog because this is a (quasi-) private discussion. These reports chronicle HRP’s story. My perspective is that of conservative, former State Party Chairman and RNC member.  I am not here writing for any of my current conservative organizations, nationally or in Hawaii. Hawaii conservatives need to know that they are not alone. Please forward this to conservatives or let me know to be removed.

Readers’ Comments – Quick Hits – HRP & Campaigns

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “Walden is biased in this and is incapable of making a fair and impartial decision.“  “the HRP is offering No real anything.“  “we are aware what we have with Beth using HRP for her own gains. . . wouldn’t trust her with anything.“  From NV “The real problem is the dominance inside the GOP of RINOs like Miriam Hellreich, who have squandered more than one chance to strengthen the HRP by pushing Conservative values within the party and recruiting Conservative candidates. They prefer to play the middle, which turns into Dem Lite.“  “(Djou) Helped reveal” massive cost overruns? Is he serious? That’s rich claiming credit for that. The media was already talking about this for years now. Al Gore invented the Internet too I suppose.“  “Want to help Charles?  Just let all your Democrat friends know he hates Trump.“  About Rohlfing email appeal “Since when is HRP going to do any GOTV??   People have already been voting for a week.  What a douche!“

Independence Day.  Reader “Fritz sent out an email with the Declaration of Independence and the HRP LLIFE non-platform on the same page.  How embarrassing.”  “Djou writes a touching story of a 1LT who gets hit in combat, then shows a photo of ….. Djou.

-State of the Hawaii Republican Party.  Reader “I can’t do it. I have the absentee ballot all bubbled in for Republican Party, signed, and sealed in the envelopes but they’re still sitting in my car for several days now. I haven’t worked up the nerve to actually drop it in a mailbox.“

Quick Hits:

– With HQ phone bank inactivated and unfunded, televisions removed, and an overpriced Saiki copier, HQ is a daycare center for paid staff.

– State of our fledgling candidates CB/State Republicans Suck at Fundraising Djou raises $233k, and Caldwell has 1.3M CoH.  Scroll down to see R legislators’ fund raising woes at the bottom of the list.

– Rail shadow over 2016 HIRA: Shall Oahu Voters Demand Another Vote On Rail?   SA OpEd: “[The FTA] knew very early on that city officials were neither competent nor honest.“

McDermott‘s ACU 57 lifetime rating = liberal Republican, and ACU is the easiest rating.

– CB on Fukumoto “Fukumoto Chang isn’t ruling out the possibility that she’ll eventually become a Democrat herself, but said that’s not a move she’d make immediately after getting re-elected.“

– SA “Thielen’s liberal streak is well known.”

– Confirmation:  HRP Candidate info omits Pine as R candidate.

– Ertl, about the Republican establishment “When an organization’s corruption is exposed and trust is lost, it is difficult for them to recover loyalty.“  HIRA exposed HRP under Rohlfing, Hellreich, Liu, Saiki.

– With instructions to pick up national convention materials at GOP HQ, feckless Trump ‘leader’ Wharton warns “The door is locked at headquarters so knock hard or call first.“

– Trump leader on being dismissed by Paikai as a delegate to Cleveland “Nathan prophesied against him (no, really) by saying God told him “he is not to go to Cleveland.”“

No effort, messaging, voter ID, phone calls, mail, email, nor recruiting for Trump Hawaii the past month, including the valuable time of Trump’s nominating convention.

– RNC tell the Rs from real Rs, or fake Rs from the Ds. Redstate/RNC Slams Trump

Trumpified, part 1

Aloha Friends. Welcome back. Part 1 of 2.  Trumpified

This month is mostly about our National Convention delegation.  Trump, Cleveland, the trip, all were fine.  The Hawaii delegation and ‘leadership’? They were a mess, worse even than the mess-practiced HRP.  However, remember, 2016 is about SCOTUS, all about SCOTUS.  Let’s begin ….

There are many strong and energy-filled conservatives and Republicans in Hawaii.  Thank youThe Hawaii Republican Party can be better.

Writing to conservatives & Republicans, mostly in Hawaii, I email rather than blog because this is a (quasi) private discussion. Meetings – Finances – By the Numbers – Convention

ATR call with Senate Leader.  Norquist, Americans for Tax Reform, hosts 30-minute call for conservative leaders with McConnell.  McConnell touts successes: rewrite NCLB, trade authority, SS reform, anti-PR bailout, environmental law, GMO labeling, tax extender relief, 5-year highway bill.  Rescinding OCare & defunding PP – not expecting Obama to sign.  SCOTUS nominee won’t get hearing.  Ds make guns political, so no new action. Races: 24 seats defense vs D’s 10.  Next call with Speaker Ryan.

State Committee.  April had only 20/51 district chairs (even as Exec Cmte members double as their own district chair), only 4/16 NI and no BI district chairs, zero from East Honolulu.  July’s pre-Primary meeting had only 14/51 districts (less than 10% precinct chairs statewide).  Liu skips, in four years as placeholder NCM he attended less than five quarterly meetings.  In April, Treasurer Smart says party has “substantial” CoH; In July, Smart warns without explanation that funds will “not last to the end of the year.”  Cmte avoids James’ motion to throw CD1 candidate out of the party D when confronted with their hypocrisy of having not done so with the 8-10 Rs-who-endorse-Ds from the past two cycles.  Rohlfing punts on 2016 “This year is only a building block for 2018.”  HIRA/So What If We Gave Up?   Smart reports $61k operating funds (5k is county), 95k total (i.e. 34k mortgage).

RNC Meeting.  Resolutions, Contest Cmte, General Session.  Ho hum, we’re focused on Convention.  Several high-priced events (your contributions provide perks for RNC members).  No chair at Chairmen’s meeting as Rohlfing says he had flight issues.  Hellreich looks ragged, Liu is not seen.  Ward’s first appearance, with Rohlfing’s proxy – no experience, having not read the rules, never been in a meeting much less a Rules meeting – as two Trump-supporting proposals were voted down.  Everyone moves to their state hotels on Saturday, I stayed downtown with the NRA.

Pre-convention. Angst & in-fighting. Unorganized outsiders squashed by the establishment+Trump.  Good on Platform dailysignal/Despite LGBTQ members, Platform Stays Conservative and not on Rules thehill/Establishment Wins Rules Fight.  Platform is more conservative and more detailed (hint HRP) than 2012.  Platform Cmte ran long so I did radio spot for Tony Perkins to summarize progress and pitch 2A.    Paikai got photo with RNC General Counsel, not comprehending that Ryder bit*ch-slapped Paikai & Hellreich over their ‘let’s-break-the-rules-and-oust-a-guest’ faux pas.  RNC View the platform here on GOP.com.  My primary goal = Platform remains strong on 2A.  Credentials overturned two RNC decisions and publicly embarrassed CO and this parody is too good to miss daily-show/Virgin Island Delegates.  Rohlfing missed Credentials (supposed flight issues points that he never intended to attend RNC meeting) and Hawaii is the only state to NOT have two members on each convention committee.

Dayton first week wrap, and convention preview SA/Rs Hit Convention.  “Lee is a member of the National Rifle Association’s Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, and he joined members of the NRA staff and board members in Cleveland as they monitored the GOP platform discussions to ensure the party maintains its strong support for Second Amendment guarantees of the right to own firearms.“

Convention.  If you read this report then you watched or read about the national convention.  Lid:  The floor at the Republican National Convention was the political equivalent of a Michael Bay movie on Monday afternoon, with procedural chaos and some walkouts breaking out as #StopTrump GOP activists unsuccessfully demanded a full floor vote that could have been a final shot at denying Donald Trump the nomination.  Disorderly D convention Redstate/Chaos, berning flags (and people), booing. Down below, you’ll read about the Hawaii delegation which you didn’t see in the media. No Hawaii media traveling with delegation.  First time I recall that lack of local interest.

Another editor’s note:  At least monthly I’ve offered to apologize for anything untrue or inaccurate.  About six years, four challenges, and twice I made the correction.  Report-haters say no one reads these, so they shouldn’t complain.  Simultaneously, rather than fixing R corruption and incompetence, the haters prefer to complain because we tell members about incompetence and corruption.  Read and let me know of faulty reporting.  I’ll make the fix.  We want ‘leaders’ to start doing their jobs.

Readers’ Comments – Quick Hits – Presidential Campaign

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “Aiona said that HRP needed more than “just a voice.” Except, he doesn’t even provide a voice.“  “Please call asap.  Want your advice on my running for US Senate.“  “Are you a candidate for Congressional district 1?“  “Marumoto’s son works for candidate running against Sam.  So who gets her Poisonous endorsement?“  “Rego, the district chair running for Clinton delegate?  She worked for Djou at Council.”  “Anyone who has observed Ward knows that he is there for his own status and no other reason.“  District Chairman Kulbis to Rohlfing about his new HQ ‘censorship policy “We followed your email policy, however, at the time of this email we have not received any response, or even an acknowledgment that you received our request.  If you’re not going to send the email at least have the courtesy to let us know.“  Candidate “Thank you Brett. This is exactly what I found after [James] promised to get back to all who emailed.”  Reader “I was a GOP candidate in 2012 and ‘14.  Our party promised to support me both times but that didn’t happen. I never received a single dime from our party, never received the lists promised, and not one Republican made a campaign contribution.  I had no support from my party.“  Campaign “we had no expectations that there would be any support from HRP.“  “They used to carry the list of District Chairs, but now there is no such list on the GOP website.“  “No list because they have gotten rid of every chair that was a pain to them, not bothered to fill in because they don’t want to stir the hornets’ nest of people that might make waves.  Those spots will be filled in with friendly appointees if needed.“  “Our last House District caucus was held way out in Waialua, out of our district.  I suspect that Fritz Rohlfing was up to his usual tricks and arranged the caucus to be held there.“  “Our district caucuses are put way out of the district in places where nobody will find them. The state party arranges that.“  “Hellreich and her puppets are deliberately driving the party into a ditch and keeping it there.“  “Oh my! Rod Tam is now a Republican? Djou running for Mayor?  Now I know that Republicans are completely irrelevant.“  “Donald Trump should FIRE Paikai!  He looks like BAD NEWS!“  Comments on Cheape “I appreciate your piece on Matsumoto.  The nonchalance with which she approaches elected office makes the head spin.  She needs to take up shift work at the family egg farm.“  “If you’re still young and learning, get the f*ck out of Room 303 at the Capitol.“  “Next opening day, everyone bring a cardboard box to Rep. Matsumoto and tell her what to do with it as she won’t have a clue close to her 30s.“  Challenging Theilen (the D) filing papers “Rohlfing is insane!“

Meetings – Finances – Candidates

NCFNRA banquet.  National Capital Friends of NRA Inaugural banquet.  Over 200 attend, each surprised to find there are so many 2A supporters in and around the nation’s capital.  Sold out ballroom and outer mezzanine, two raffled Barrett’s helped) at historic Army-Navy Club.

-National Convention Hawaii Delegation Meeting.  Never needed more than one meeting, reader “the third of one meeting”.  Reader “Had Rohlfing, Hellreich, Liu done their job, this would be completed in the one meeting following convention, as in the past. “  Hellreich’s demands “Bring your checkbooks and credit cards” to pay a fee we haven’t agreed on and writes that the meeting is “critical”.  Attendees “When the attendees have no say, decisions are deferred to future unscheduled meetings, when there is no leadership, someone should explain how this became critical.”  “Paikai, who should have been prepared to be delegation chair, and Trumpers’ actions after convention didn’t help this to be an organized, unified process“.  “Nathan’s attitude and nastiness at the first meeting set the tone.“  “For a delegate on a budget, this poor planning would be a nightmare!  HRP is trying to squeeze extra money out of the delegates, pretty outrageous.”  Helleich, day prior “The agenda may not be available ahead of time but it will be comprehensive. If we don’t cover any subject that anyone is concerned about, we will discuss it. The meeting will not end until we have addressed all questions and concerns.”  Delegates “I feel penalized for being part of this Delegation. These people are so discouraging.“  “Delegation fee?  Appears the Trump team didn’t know and didn’t ask as they were taken completely aback “  “Some had no idea they would have to pay anything! This included Paikai!“  “At the last meeting, Nathan repeatedly asked “where are we gonna get the money for this or that” and I said “your candidate is a businessman, why can’t he pay for it?” and Miriam kept cutting in, “No, we can’t do that, they won’t do that” and I said “Did you ask?”“

Incompetence.  Following Trump Hawaii divisiveness of the last meeting, Hellreich and Paikai continue to spilt the Hawaii GOP.  Delegate “I am not encouraged by the lack of HQ/Trump info and preparation, and lack of leadership.“  Paikai’s “mother” Hellreich sat to his left to coach him.  Three meetings and still not enough info to decide on lei or shirts, or MN activities.  Clear that the only reason for this meeting was for Hellreich’s motion, not an agenda item, to remove Ryan from the delegation.  Using Robert’s Rules, in violation of RNC Rule 28, Paikai eventually got through a vote (absolutely confused by Hellreich’s “Call the question”).  Warned about RNC Rule 28c, the Trump lemmings fell at Hellreich’s feet.  The delegation voted to remove a qualified guest of a qualified delegate of a competing campaign.  HIRA:  Island-Liberals-Block-HIRA-Leader-from-Attending-RNC-Convention  Common with HRP ‘leaders’ and Trump suck ups, emotions override principle.  Not necessarily bad people, just weak.  Even Rohlfing, who much dislikes Ryan and who authored the party Purity Pledge, voted against Hellreich.  King, afraid to cross Hellreich could at least abstain.  Weak-principled people listed here, Hellreich has no principles.

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers. “Thanks for the info on HRP.  It’s not very encouraging, but it is interesting.“  “I cover my eyes in fear because the picture is so bad.“  “I am a district captain for Convention of States here on the Big Island.“  From a guy who has been in our party four months “You seem passionate.  I recommend getting out there and pressing a little flesh. Getting to know your subject matter does wonders for your perspective.“  Big Island reader “In 2007-2008 I met Dylan Nonaka and volunteered to help him build a more or less conservative element on the Big Island.  We had one small “caucus” that was supposed to have Honolulu HRP representatives give us advice.  What arrived were clueless teenagers!  What a fiasco – and things just got worse.  My wife and I sent out hundreds of letters to the out-of-date list Dylan gave me.“  “What advice would you give to one who was interested in getting involved but not get wrapped up with these folks?“  Potential candidate “I’m really not sure how the party is going to keep the lights on down at the HQ.  Thoughts like why anyone would want to be a republican in this state cross the mind.  I’m frustrated.“  “The motions in the HRP is simply Rigor Mortis.“  “The HRP is just a Club and not a political party.“  “The party is rotting from the head and desperately needs reform“ “Rolfing is slippery.  My senses tingled and not in a good way when I first saw him.“  “I was shocked when only 15,000 Republicans voted in the caucus, and that was a 50% increase over 2012.  What!?  In a state of 1.4 million people?“  “I agree that the HI GOP is weak.“  To HIRA “So how can we get rid of this slimy bit*h and the rest of her ilk and get real conservatives in office?  Can’t the republican party just throw her out along with her counterparts since they are and want to be dems?  This is frigging disgusting.“ “problem is current regime has very few that know how to run much of anything,“  “Fritz has nothing to offer but a fake smile.  Never saw him do anything at Party in all my years of volunteer work.“

Meetings – Finances – By The Numbers

NRA Annual Meeting, Louisville. www.NRA.org  You MUST attend. 80,452 gun people. Exhibit Hall with 10 acres of guns and stuff from 650 vendors.  Days are long, nights are longer. 2,200 attend NRA Foundation dinner.  Corporate Luncheon raised $2.1M in 30 minutes.  8,000 see Trump at ILA Forum. Toby Keith in concert and 35,000 at the free outdoor Country Jam concert. ILA updates and 1,200 at ILA banquet.  If you believe in the Second Amendment, if you’re a gun guy/gal you must someday attend.  At BoD meeting, Allan Cors reelected NRA President. NRA endorses Trump. Personally told Don that NRA members fully support his and brother Eric’s pro-2A position.  Next year: Atlanta.  Disclaimer: I am on the NRA Military and Veterans Affairs and the Outreach Committees.

-HRP State Convention. BEFORE.

HRP wouldn’t, so HIRA provided a preview with candidate bios and rules changes Tomorrow’s State Convention.  Reader “If HIRA hadn’t informed me, I wouldn’t know.  HRP doesn’t tell or do anything.”

Rules. Dishonesty is one reason Rohlfing can’t get support for HRP. Cancelling Elections. “Change the rules, cancel the election, and stay in power.  That’s exactly what corrupt party officers led by Fritz Rohlfing at the Hawaii Republican Party are trying to get away with.“  NCW candidate, though, thinks they were ignorant of the unintended consequences of cancelling 2017 convention.  Incompetence vs. conniving?  Reader to Walden ”I am no longer an elected member of the Rules Committee.  Per Rules Section 413, our House District did not meet and my term “ended on the day when the election should have been held”.  So there was no real rules committee which had no real rules meetings and came up with no real rules change proposals which presented no honest proposals to the convention which approved changes which weren’t properly forwarded by the (non) committee.

Readers’ Comments – Fukumoto vs McDermott – Presidential Caucus

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers.  “Beth will eventually change parties like Aaron since the Rs are a bit of a joke. At this point it wouldn’t even matter if she left.  Bob is quite unusual…he approves of the Rail project and is an R – it’s difficult to see who are the hypocrites in this State.“  Kauai “the party doesn’t make it convenient to participate if you are on a neighbor island; it’s all about Oahu.  Add to that, people over here don’t want to do anything or take on responsibility, or it’s the same people and no one new.  I think the average age of participants on Kaua’i is 70+.  I got frustrated with the bunch of them last year; I’d had enough of [Hickling].“  “As a candidate myself I felt that my own party betrayed me.“  “As Hawaii’s population increased, HRP has seen a drop in Republican votes from 2008 to 2014 there are 1.4% less Republicans voting.“

[pullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=”16″] Revelations of HQ money hanky-panky coincide with Rohlfing/Hellreich/Liu (R/H/L) hiring a lawyer to silence HIRA.  Had HIRA succumbed they would have ceased operations the day before the controversial state meeting.  Conveniently, then, we’d never know of this corruption.  HIRA still waiting for our impotent HQ to initiate their lawsuit.  They are feckless, as always.   [/pullquote]

Meetings – Finances – By The Numbers

-RNC Conservative Steering Committee.  About 130 (of 168) RNC members who call themselves conservative, many are.  No one else from Hawaii – Kaauwai, Fukumoto, Chang, Rohlfing, Liu or Hellreich – has been invited to join.  Organized by the Conservative Caucus, 20 of us are Founders.  Prior to the RNC meeting, coordinated actions on RNC Rules, Resolutions.  Interesting comment: race for Texas NCM is a $200,000 campaign, decided by the 10,000 state convention delegates.  In Hawaii our candidates spend nothing for the 100 delegates at State Convention.

RNC, Ft Lauderdale. RNC Punts on Rules  Cruz & Kasich make the rounds.  Speakers: Rumsfeld, FL Gov Scott, ’13 Hours’ authors, dinner party with live music on Grand Floridian Yacht.  Most expensive meeting in years at $300/night, and the yacht party.  To change from US House Rules to Roberts Rules for the convention; RNC Rules Cmte did not have the guts to decide, leaving it to the Convention Rules Cmte.  You were represented by Fale(he) with Rohlfing’s proxy, has never read the national party rules, never been to a rules cmte meeting, never been to an RNC meeting – he voted with the establishment.  Redstate – Establishment Wins at RNC Meeting   In a televised session, Fale was the only male on the cmte on national TV without coat and tie, aiding HRP’s reputation as not ready for prime time politics.  That was the only session for him; no chairman in the chairman’s meeting, no ED in the ED meeting.

Convention(COA).  RNC decides to for the first time use electronic voting for all motions, except voting to determine our nominee.  Hawaii, with no political juice, an ineffective Hellreich, mostly absent ghost Liu, and always absent Rohlfing earned a hotel in the retirement capital of Ohio, Mentor.  The three-star Holiday Inn is 23 miles from the convention and all the activities.

-Cruz Hawaii national delegation.  Relaxed gathering for our members to meet and discuss getting to and being at convention.  Delegates and Alternate Delegates announced this week.

Readers’ Comments – Fukumoto vs McDermott – Presidential Caucus

I don’t necessarily agree with ALL our readers.  Fukumoto used donors’ dollars “$214 costumes for Beth? LOL. To “disguise” as being a Republican? Must not be working.“  “It is embarrassing for the Party to have heat towards HIRA and HIRA is the one alerting members to bad bills moving in the legislature. Instead of spending money and energy going after HIRA, the Party should spend money and energy informing it’s members of the bad bills that are passing through the legislative process. You can bet that if there’s a bill being heard in a committee that Dem activists and unions support or oppose, someone will be there to testify for it or against it.“  “Dump Donald Duck ! He is a Trojan Horse destroying the GOP!“  “I hope to institute a one day per week Trump rally along the roadside from the Convention until election day.“  “I’ve become very dissatisfied with those that call themselves Republicans in Hawaii.  It is in name only, because what I hear is the same old stuff of what we get from the Democrats.“
